Default Got 7290 off ebay. It has password. What now?

Please Login to Remove!

I purchased a phone off ebay that asks for a password when powered up. I guess I need to get in touch with Blackberry to have it removed. Is this correct? HHEEELLLLPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you enter the password incorrectly 10 times it will wipe the device and then allow you to set a new password, which you can then disable.

this is also a case where you would contact the seller and let him know that, the next time he sells a smartphone, it would be considerate to wipe it before shipping.

but yea, do what ^ said, and you'll be fine.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Is it asking for PIN or password. They are two seperate things.

Why would the BB ask for the PIN on startup? It's definately asking for the password.

Even if it was asking for the PIN, hopefully the guy knows his own SIM card PIN!

The part about entering the password incorrectly 10 times is correct. However, after setting a new password, you dont necessisarily get to disable the password. If the device was connected to a BES with a policy that required a password, you wont be able to disable it even after wiping the device.

When I hard reset or turn off my BB, upon turning it on it asks for a PIN. Note I'm not talking about "The PIN" assigned to your BB. I'm talking about a 4 digit code. I can't be the only one who gets that when I start my BB's up, can I? I am differentiating this from the security password you set up in security options. When you're saying "password" which one are you referring to?

You can set a PIN on your SIM card so that if someone steals your BB and SIM card, they cannot steal your service by putting the card in a different phone.

The BB is very clear in delineating 'password' and 'PIN'.

Obviously it isn't.

1. PIN coide on startup: xxxx (Is this the SIM card PIN or is that #4?)
2. Security password: yyyy
3. PIN number for BB to BB communication: aaaaaaaa (8 digit code.)
4. ?

When I said PIN, everyone thought I was talking about #3 when I was really talking about #1.

A GSM BB says "SIM PIN" when it wants the SIM card PIN and "PIN" when it is referring to BB PIN messaging.

So, that happens to be my situation (previously belonged to a BES policy, now I can't disable the password). How do I fix it?

I just turned off my TMO 8700g and then turned it on again. The box that pops up says, "Enter PIN code(10 left)". This code is not the PIN messaging code. My old BB 6230 did the same thing. I'm amazed that no one else has this happen to them. How did they turn it off? This PIN code is not the same as the security password which I have disabled, but when enabled it says "security password" not "PIN."

Why I brought this up: I was at an airport and needed to check my email. I powered it up and kept trying the password which would not work. When I looked closer I realized it was asking me for a PIN code. I put in xxxx and it worked. I had mixed up the two

I still want to know why I'm the only one who gets this PIN code. My assumption is that I'm not the only one, and that others just are not posting because they agree with me.

Seach for IT policy removal.

If your BB is asking for the SIM PIN then it's enabled in Options->SIM Card->Enable security (click the trackwheel). Someone enabled it on your BB. I'm not sure if IT policies can set this or not.

Thank you! Now that answers it. The PIN code was the SIM PIN. I disabled it so no more PIN request. N ow I'm normal again!
