Default ms "word" files and media storage

Please Login to Remove!

HI
I am deliberating purchasing a pearl
1) Can the micro sd card store "word" and excel files
I know the card supports various media formats( music, pictures etc.)
2) if it can store word and excel can these files then be sent as attachments directly through blackberry email (as pictures can) ?

( I asked a similar question earlier this week but as I did not specify word files I am unsure if the answer is accurate)

Thanx
Michael - prospective pearl newbie

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Yes and yes. Any file can be stored on the card and sent as an attachment.

What about viewing them (word and excel) in the blackberry? What options do I have? Paid vs Free.....free would be the nicer option.

you can't view them without purchasing 3rd party viewing software. you can only view those files from directlybwithin the email app.

There is no real Explorer on the 8100 itself. I ended up putting a bunch of my files into the Pictures folder on the card, so I could at least navigate there using the multi media application.

The docs, pdf's, and excel files show up but, as indicated above, there is no way to view them. I subscribe to DocHawk, and the option to view them through this service does not even show up in the menu in this app. Email attachment viewing only.

This seems like it is a feature that should be there if you're able to store and send files.

Yes, you can view Office files you transfer over to your device with eOffice; I'm not sure if they support the memory card yet, though. I own this app, but I always end up taking it off of my device just because it seems too awkward to use, and it doesn't do a good job of formatting with spreadsheets I use.

Dynoplex offers great support, and this is the only way you can view and edit Word docs on a BlackBerry, but I don't use it. But yes, this app would be a great way to keep your files on your device and be able to view them, as well.

It's a little frustrating since everything you would need to do this is already on the Pearl!

If it can display them when in an e-mail message - why can't you use that same viewer to display them off the card or internal memory?

for everyone's info

Just got off thephone with dynoplex ( eworks , eoffice)

They do not support sd card

which means their software cannot view or edit doc or excel files stored on card :(

I share everyone's frustration

if you can view an attached word file why cant you view a stored word file

Only solution is attaching the file and mailing to yoursefl

If anyone has a better solution please share

FYI: Dynoplex is currently working on this and eOffice v4.x will support flash memory. Right now you can simply transfer files to the main memory using USB cable or saving attached files.

If you transfer MS Word files to the memory card as simple text files (through a usb connection from your desktop), you can see them using the "explore" command of the "media" program.

Cool Thanks. I tried it and it worked. Awesome feature. So, the "explore" feature can opt TXT and JPG files. a few questions (sorry if they sound stupid but i am new to the BB world)

1) why i have to go to the "explore" to open a JPG and can not open it by clicking on the picture icon in the media application?

2) what other files can the "explore" application open? GIF, MP3, XLS ?

Thanks
