Default Unhappy with 7100t service- can anyone help?

Please Login to Remove!

okay, here is my situation. I purchased the 7100t from a t-mobile store and had my Verizon number ported over.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the phone, and I think the coverage map for t-mobile is terrible. I had NO IDEA it would be this bad. I can't get service in buildings or hotels at all. Anyone outside a major metro area is hit and miss. Like I said, I LOVE the phone.

Is there any way to use it on Cingular? I heard that they are better. My problem is that I just absolutely cannot be without my number or my phone for any period. I am still within my 14-day policy and could return the phone, but I prefer to keep the 7100t. I am willing to switch to the 7100g if I have to, but I prefer the 7100t if there are any options to do so. Also, if I switch to the 7100g, how can I do that? There isn't one at any store for me to drive to and switch while I still have the 7100t.

Also, I mailed in the rebate on teh 7100t, not thinking, can I still return it? (I would still prefer to just keep it)

How many days do you have left in your trial period? If you have at least 3 days left, then call up EAccess and order a 7100g, have them overnight it, and when you get it, call up Cingular and have them port the number from T-Mobile. When that goes through (should happen same day), call up T-Mobile and cancel and return the phone.

The 7100t is SIM-locked to T-Mobile, so I don't think you're going to find an easy way to take it with you to Cingular.

You're going to have to call where you bought your phone regarding the rebate deal. Most of the T-Mobile rebates I've seen require that you send in a copy of your first month's bill along w/ the rebate.

I'm surprised about your coverage issues. We have 6 or so field users w/ 7100t's that drive all across the US, and none of them have complained about problems getting a signal in an area shown as "covered" on the T-Mobile map. We get FAR more complaints from our Verizon users who are mad because their BB says "Data connection refused" in most of the Gulf Coast states. :(

Cingular's network is GSM, so GSM BlackBerry's can roam on it, and then only if their carriers allow it. (i.e. most of T-Mobile's SC/NC coverage is achieved by letting their users roam on Cingular for no additional fee)

Cingular roams on SunCom/T-Mobile in most of VA.

There's lots of sharing agreements like that.

no, I am in Texas. It works fine for me in Houston, but I travel all over the US and the coverage is just inconsistent.

I wouldn't say that.

But I also wouldn't say it's definately going to get a lot better just because you're switching to Cingular, either. I mean, Cingular's obviously going to be a helluva lot better if you travel to a city that T-Mobile doesn't cover (:D), but if you're in a city where both Cingular and T-Mobile offer coverage, both carriers are going to have their unique good/bad coverage spots in that city.

Check this out if you get a chance. Should give you a good idea of how each carrier is rated on its call quality (i.e. call going thru the first time, etc) in the different regions:
