It looks like the 8100 has some competition, it will certainly be interesting to see what and how fast things come out in the next couple of months.

With the reviews that I am seeing I think I will wait till December to make any decision about purchasing a new phone.

Cingular announced they're selling the Nokia E62. These things are supposed to do Blackberry Connect. The E62 is something I was seriously considering before they announced the Pearl. HTC is readying the Excalibur, clearly a Blackberry ripoff but running Windows Mobile. I'm not a fan of Windows Mobile but if I were, butt-ugliness aside, this one by HTC looks pretty feature-rich and worth a look.

Judging by the prices and features of these things they are targeted at both the consumer audience and business user. The Nokia E62 is being priced at $150 with a 2-year contract. No pricing yet on the Excalibur but they're tauting the ability to stream your Slingbox so they're targeting consumers with features and business users with the Windows Mobile OS.
