Cingular reps are polite but often uninformed. Hold times are sometimes long. Candidly, I am considering switching to T-Mobile.

After the upgrade to BIS 2.0, it took 3 calls to Cingular support to get my WAP and blackberry internet setup. The first time they setup internet access for the blackberry browser, but no wap access. Called a second time, and they got WAP working, but then the blackberry browser stopped working. 3rd time a charm, they finally got both working. All 3 calls were minimum 20 minute hold time, so they must be having major issues with these upgrades.

Try the Live chat link I gave above. People are saying that is much quicker in getting things resolved. I do not know this as I have not done it but at least it gives you something to do while on hold.

I had the same issue switched to the $29.99 plan, had no blackberry browser. Called Cingular's Blackberry support and was told that the blackberry browser is not included with the $29.99 plan. Only the Cingular browser is included. So I jumped on the live Cingular support chat link above and reported the problem. I was pulled into a secure chat so they could ask me my phone number, pin number etc without other people seeing the info. And they "re-provisioned" the blackberry browser had me power off and back on and the BB browser was back. So thanks for the link to the Cingular live help forum above.

Might have to jump back on to the live help forum a little later, this morning when I woke up I check the BB and it keeps saying "data connection refused". Tried removing the battery and putting it back in, same thing. Only getting little edge, not EDGE, maybe they are having a network issue in my area, samething happened for about an hour a couple of weeks ago.

My experience with Cingular is that the representatives frequently do not provide accurate information but they are very polite. Frankly, I am thinking of leaving Cingular because of this. They are building a good network and a good company but I am not sure I want to remain while they get their act together.

If you ask for the "Blackberry Browser" with this plan they will tell you it's not available because the Blackberry Browser is technically the BES/MDS browser. Hence, no BES/MDS = no Blackberry Browser. The BIS equivalent is generally named Internet Browser or Browser and does not require BES while the Cingular Browser is the WAP browser.

It is confusing because, like takeshi said, the names mix people up:

My understanding of BIS is that you get 2 Browsers (Icon Names below):
1. Cingular Browser
2. "Internet Browser" - this shows the Blackberry Logo when you open it.

I just switched to the $29.99 plan a few minutes ago. The icon for the "internet browser" is there, but it says things are unavailable. I'll wait about 2hrs to see if it fixes itself and then I'll get a hold of their tech support to get it reprovisioned.

I love blowing off work to screw around with this stuff...

Got on the phone w/ Cingular tech support. They had to fix it by reactivating my "Blackberry Internet Browsing Service". Took him awhile to figure it out, so hopefully telling them to do that will make this process quicker for the next people who need this...
