Ok, got it to work. I wasn't able to get it installed over the Bharti, but it did work over Telstra. Make sure you copy the files inside the Java folder separately.

Can someone post a pic of the Vodafone Today screen? Is it worth the upgrade for that one feature? Zen...eh...I can take it or leave it. I'd really like to see the theme that others think is better...

They are posted in the first post of this thread.

Which before you ask also contains the instructions on how to load the Today themes.

OS works like a magic for me. I love the Dimension Today screen. Been running it for about 5 hours now and it seems to be okay. It's a keeper!

Might be having an issue. Cannot get BB Today to retrieve any weather or stock data, says local connection timed out. Nor can I get Yak on to connect, or ramble. I have checked, set, and re-set my APN settings for TCPIP. Still no connection.

Was a pain in the a$$, but worth it. First tried to install from Bharti to the new, got the JVM 523. Then went to Telstra, that worked. Loaded the Vodafone theme and it showed up on my list of themes but not able to activate it. Then had to go through and ammend my .alx files and just remove all vendor tags. but the new theme is great. I was never a fan of Zen and this is a great layout! PM if you have any questions!

Two things I noticed right away.

1. When connecting from GSM to edge the "edge" icon shows these letters "fehf" then goes to EDGE.
2.My data appears to request and load faster.

Besides the one tiny problem everything else works great!

I just finished updating from Telestra to this new version on my 8700r without any issues.

I noticed that my homescreen picture was reset, but that was easily fixed. Everything else seems to have kept their settings.

It does seem noticably faster for me when it reconciles and requests/sends data.

Alarm applet, along with others all work just fine.

Hey guys. I've got a question about all this. When you copy the 8707 files into the Telstra folder, do you:

(a) Copy the UTMS folder as well?
(b) Completely overwrite the Telstra Java folder, or do you just add to it, overwriting some of the files?

Thanks for the help!

Just copy everything over. I deleted the UMTS folder and the Korean language file. Works fine.

This seems to be a recurring issue. The carrier's names are Vodafone and Telstra respectively.

Cool, thanks. I managed to do it last night. For some strange reason, I couldn't get it to work the first 5 times. Thanks for the reply . I love it...so fast and the network hasn't dropped yet. I do miss the old regular Voda theme for 8700.

Package Version: 4.1.0.394
Applications: 4.1.0.316

The removal of the TCP functions in the BlackBerry are actually for technical reasons. The 3G networks of most carriers does not support multiple PDP contexts, so applications using direct TCP could end up fighting with the OS over bandwidth. The earlier versions of the firmware for 8707 did have the TCP function, but they removed it in the final releases 4.1.0.316 !!!!!!!

They have said that it might be returned later, but no timeframe as to when.

So it's been a while since anyone has posted in this thread and I'm wondering if anyone has any updates on how well the 8707 software is running on their 8700... I'm thinking about trying it, but wondering if there's any real benefit or not, as well as if there are any serious (or not so serious downsides) to it.

Personally, I love it. There's only one thing that bugs me, and that's every now and then, there's a "ghost sms" on the Voda Today theme. Someone will SMS me, and even after I read it, the message still appears on the screen as unread. A reboot resolves it.

As far as everything else goes, the network doesn't drop, the call volume is slightly lower I think than Telstra (309), but nevertheless, this is a stable OS worth switching to.

I have been running this version on my 8700g for approx 10 days now with no problems whatsoever (using Zen Theme).

Did you have Telstra installed BEFORE you installed this update? That seems to be a requirement to avoid this problem.

I'm actually downgrading to the 8700. The lack of a TCP stack caused certains applications to not work:

4info
Opera
SSH
PicoNews

and a couple more. The fact that you cannot set the APN setting will cause these apps to fail
