Hi all,

Might be noob question - I'm not a BB owner yet, but am seriously close to buying an 8700f here in the UK. My question is, will a mini SD wifi card work with an 8700f?

Any thoughts?

Hi Martin - welcome to BBForums.

The 8700, as with ALL BlackBerrys, does not have a Mini SD card slot. So the mini SD wifi card will not work with any 8700, or any BlackBerry.

Yup this is true no SD cards for BB. I've got an 8700f and am very very impressed with it. what are you buygin yours for? is it a business use with MS Exchange or Lotus Notes email system?

Thats weird. The spec page for the 8700f on the Orange UK Business website states "SD/MM Card Slot" Have I misunderstood this?

Cant post the link due to lack of previous posts, but should be easy to find.

My head office in the US have just upgraded their mail system to (I think) Exchange, with Small Business Server. Being remotely located from them, this has transformed my email situation - I can access outlook remotely from any PC, and then when I connect my laptop at a later date, it syncs previously read/deleted email in local outlook.

I want to extend this capability to a mobile device, and it looks to me like the 8700 might do this quite well. Do you think I will get the same functionality? My main goal is to be able to read/write/delete email from the BB, and for all changes made on the BB to sync with the mail server, and be reflected in my local outlook when I next fire up the laptop. What do you reckon?

If the web site states that the BlackBerry has an SD/MMC slot, the web site is wrong.. There is no removeable memory on any BB.

You will get the most use out of a BB with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which must be run by the home office. I'd ask them if they run "BES" before buying an 8700.

Orange needs to correct their web site. Besides the (incorrect) statement that the 8700 has an SD/MMC slot, it also apparently has an MP3 player...

Well thats answered that! Thanks Orange. Will check on the BES situation - though my feeling is that this is not in place. Do you think I will get the functionality I need from an Exchange Server based system?

You need some way to get the e-mail from Exchange to the BlackBerry. There is Sticky Thread FAQ with information on how to get e-mail from your e-mail server to the BB. It is at the top of the General BlackBerry Discussion forum.

I just looked at the spec. page for the 8700f on the Business Orange U.K. site and sure enough they list:

features
data transfer/connectivity

* GPRS
* Bluetoothxxx174;
* synchronise personal information with your PC
* EDGE
* SD/MM Card slot

They should probably change that.

Yup I'm operating a BES server ehre with 8700's on Orange and I can say that looking at my BB now (and having put together about 25 now over last week) there are no slots for any form of memory cards. I'm guess it's another slip up on the Orange web site ;)
