Well here goes for the first post. I am really interested in getting the 8700c from cingular but i have heard that some people say that the MIC has problems with background noise filtering. At the company where i work at, we had the same problem when the cingular 7100 rolled out. issues was solved by using the bluetooth headset. Since this is going to have to function as my phone, i was wondering if any other 8700 users had experienced the problem with their phones.

I am on Cingular and the phone quality is excellent. Does it pick up background noise? Yes. I've never owned a phone that did not. If I am really in a noisy environment I bring along my ETY*COM headset.

If you will be looking at a BT headset I suggest the Plantronics Discovery 640 from http://smartphonedepot.com

Default Phone quality

Thus far I have been very impressed with the phone quality of the 8700. I was actually expecting much more of a compromise based on general comments regarding other BBs, Treos and similar devices. The form factor is obviously different and it takes some getting used to the overall concept of an integrated device, but the phone itself works well. I find the volume louder in the earpiece then either my latest Motorola or Nokia phones and have had no complaints about picking up background noise as compared to my previous phones.

I suggest following these steps:
1. Buy cing 8700c
2. Try cing 8700c for a couple of days with the stock firmware
3. Delete stock firmware and find Seattle18's excellent guide for installing the Barthi firmware
4. enjoy phone 200% more.

I have and sell the 8700c and I have not heard any issues with the noise cancellation properties. Could be a couple of faulty devices (every carrier has those). However, it is truly a great machine. It runs like a horse, but more like a short winded horse as the battery doesnt last as long as its counterparts. If you visit this site, www.phonescoop.com, you will learn a lot of great facts and reviews. Personally, I cannot recommend the 8700c enough. However, like the othe members above posted, try it and see if you like it.
