Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

No side effects if you remove the case youself. But I believe the dust will be continuous (sp)

The one I have had for several weeks now does not have dust. But it is just a matter of time. Besides, I could only notice the dust when the screen was dark - never with it on....

I recieved my second replacement yesterday. I'm guessing I have the new one, refurb of course.

Did we ever come to a consensus on which are the newer revs? This one has a plastic trim piece that keeps the SIM card in place, rather than the piece of clear rubber tape the other ones had.

I noticed there are two dust particles under the screen at the top left area while screen on and off. I bought 8700c Cingular 8 days ago. This is my first purchase of 8700. It have a craved "CAV3" on the back of battery door and it have a little black arm that keeps sim card in place. The body is color silver and the inside body is black. Send/End and User-defined buttons and keyboard are, not sealed enough, welcoming ducts. Unlike older models, you all don't see right pass the buttons.

I probably didn't notice dusts when I purchase and the days I had until after I read abt dust issue here as of now. I looked carefully and caught couple of duct particles. It probably was not completely cleaned out before they replaced new gasket etc

I don't know for sure... :-/

But hey 8700, you still are wonderful.

Third one, actually. First one was traded due to dust. Second one's mics stopped working. This one is OK, except the BlueTooth does not seem as hardy as the last one...

Default Dust in the 8700

I use anti static wipes, same ones for computer screens, and that seems to help with the dust. Also I noticed that over time the dust seems to move to the sides. I had the same problem with my 7105t on T-mobile.

I have dust in mine, and I just read through this thread/novel. I was one of the first to purcase from Cingular on Dec. 1, 2005. There seem to be conflicting experiences, should I try and get it replaced from Cingular, or call RIM. I don't want a refurb because I will eventually sell it on ebay when something better comes out.

Thanks. Ryan

Nothing conflicting about it.

If you try for a replacement through Cingular you'll probably get a refurb.

If you don't want a refurb you're only choice is stick with what you've got.

There isno way in hell I'm driving to a carwash and having the guy vacuum my 8700c with an industrial strength car vac!

you must be out your mind!

Yeah I'm sure it will solve your dust problem for a few milliseconds before your 8700c is ripped apart and sucked into the tube...like a spaceshuttle into a black hole!
