FYI I didn't go for the rebate. THAT would have been greedy.

So, after I unlocked I popped out my Cingular SIM and popped in my Tmo SIM. Easy peasy. It fired right up and the Tmo service books came in. Then I remembered from reading another post that I needed to log in to the My Tmo website. I left My Device alone since it was set to a Blackberry and Tmo doesn't yet have the 8700 yet obviously. Then I clicked over to set up my BIS email and it said:

You were configured for (old PIN) but now you seem to be using (new PIN). Wanna switch?

So I clicked the SURE, DUDE! button and all of a sudden the phone lit up with new email!

And so here I am in the Mpls airport on my brand SPANKIN new blackberry.

It is

The Bomb.

Fingers... Getting... Tired...

Mmmmmmm beer.

I wouldn't run the rebate, you will never get your money because you canceled your account.

Woo hoo!
Yay for it all working out

I am still trying to get one. I truly can't wait to be able to get enough cash to get my own.

I'd agree with this. You're just asking for trouble IMO.

I'd agree with JD...I wouldn't push our luck!!

Got mine last night!! I'm just waiting for my unlock code now...I'm going to head to a T-Mobile store at lunch to get my SIM, so when I get the code I can just pop it in and start working...

The anticipation is KILLING me!!!

Thanks, jisaacs!! Your offer is MUCH appreciated. This is such a great forum!

I called CS last night and they said it could take up to 24-48hrs for my account to provision. Right now the phone reads GSM, so I can make phone calls at least...I guess I have to wait for the provisioning to setup the BIS on TMO and push the service books to my BB....I think!!

Your mileage will vary when provisioning service. Most people get it within hours, some it does take the two days, it all depends on how lucky/unlucky you are.

Well, looks like I also took a leap of faith and bought the device through Amazon.

Will be contacting Adam for an unlock code tomorrow when I receive the unit.

For those who canceled the Cingular service, are they a PITA to cancel your service with? When I had Cingular a few years ago, they sucked in terms of customer hospitality...

edit:

Here is the email I received from Amazon.com concerning canceling the service as soon as I receive the device.

Quote:
Greetings from Amazon.com.

Once you order is charged and shipped there are no further charges
from Amazon.com.

If you chose to cancel your service plan with Cingular you are not
required to return your order.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com!

Looks like I'm one of the unlucky ones!! 27+ hours and still 'provisioning'!! Spoke to TMO BB Support twice and that's what they keep telling me....that it could take from 24-72 hours...

This is getting a little old..that's for sure! But....I've waited this long, I guess I can continue to wait....this STINKS!!!

I am wondering if this will work? If I buy the 8700C from amazon, cancel the cingular plan within 3 days and then would i be able to have it activated on my existing cingular plan that i have now. The purchase from amazon will be done from someone else and not me. just wondering if the imei number will show up in there system

Just pop in your SIM card (since you are already on Cingular) and change your plan accordingly. Yes, it should work.

Should I install the version of desktop manager that came on CD with my 8700 or use the download from RIM? Does the CD version contain Cingular specific stuff on it? Thanks!!

Just download and install the Bharti version. The one on the CD is most likely outdated.

JD and everyone ...thanks for the info...its was very much appreciated...now here is my question for you guys and gals.

1. Can't I just have Cingular unlock the BB 8700 before cancelling the contract?

2. How would this work if I wanted the 8700r from Rogers Wireless. Is Amazon Canada doing something similar?

3. I know there was a T-MO rep here...and you guys/gals may know this..Is T-Mobile groing to come out the 8700 phone in the United States? If so...when is this going to happen?

thx

we dont know yet when T-Mobile is going to release the 8700, they havent metioned it in our new devices list, the best thing to do is keep checking back and they will tell you as soon as we know.
