Default few BES 5.0 and exchange 2010 upgrade questions

Please Login to Remove!

Dear All,

we have exchange 2003 and BES 4.1.6 and want to upgrade to exchange 2010 and BES 5.04. we have the following

questions please which we tried to find answers to and got confused by different answers:

1. if we migrate to exchange 2010 and keep BES 4.1, will it work? we found on some sites that we must upgrade to BES 5.0

first as BES 4.1 will not work with exchange 2010!

2. if we will do both, shall BES upgrade be done first?

3. Our provider sent us an offer for BESx 5 and said it is the same as BES but for small organizations (we have 40 users).

we found on the net that BESx is free!!! Also, inplace upgrade is not possible from BES 4.1 to BESx 5. What will we

really lose if we go with BESx and is it realy free?

4. will the license cost of upgrading BES 4.1 TO BES 5.0 be as the same as purchasing a new BES 5 licenses?

thanks

robert

If you look into the compatibility Matrix: http://us.blackberry.com/content/dam...sept_20_12.pdf it rather looks, that BES 4.1.x will not work with Exchange 2010. You could try if it works or not, but if it later turns out it does not, your 40 users will have a problem.

You should first upgrade to BES 5, then upgrade Exchange

BESx Express is free, but limited in its functionality regarding the amount of policies. I dont know, if the BESx Express is the right choice for you. Here: http://us.blackberry.com/apps-softwa..._NA_012110.pdf is a simple comparison of the features.

You can find an upgrade from the Full BES 4.x to 5.x for about $1000. If you cannot google this for yourself, look for a company called Zezel. I bought several product from them, and I never had a reason to complain.

4. will the license cost of upgrading BES 4.1 TO BES 5.0 be as the same as purchasing a new BES 5 licenses? BES CALs are still the same price.

thanks

Regarding the Cals I thought I remember, all current Cals can be used with the upgrade version, also, the upgrade version comes with some Cals - but, better ask such a question the potential seller.

For the BESx Express you dont need Cals - Server and Cals are free of charge.

Yes all paid for CALs will work fine.

There were some free ones in the past for BPS you could steal that wont work. (only allowed 1 per BES)

Also some old SBS CALs wont work and you have to contact RIM for replacement.
