Hello, newbie to both Blackberries and smartphones in general, so please forgive the (most likely) silly question: I noticed that my BB seems to be sending and/or (I'm not sure which) receiving small bits of data (it looks to be about 0.3k when I turn on the phone and 0.1k every hour or so afterward) when the phone is basically doing nothing and I was wondering if that was normal BB behavior. Thanks!

Yes, depending on what you have running in the background. I have a weather app running that checks for updates every 15 minutes, for example. I wouldn't sweat it.

The thing is, I don't (as far as I know) have any background apps running -- I haven't installed any yet. The BB also does not have BIS/BES so I don't think it should be checking for BBMs or push email.

Yes, this is normal. Any time you see the diagonal arrows in the upper right hand corner, data is being sent or received. Even though you do not have BIS or BES, the device will continue to check if it has been provisioned. Data will also transmit when you change cells or end a phone call.

Thank you. I've only ever used feature phones without data before, so I wasn't sure if this was normal or not. From what I've been reading, I should start thinking of my BB as a mini computer that's always connected to the internet -- whether I'm actively using it or not, it's always going to be transferring little bits of data!
