Re: os software update
We need detail to help you.
1) Computer OS? Windows? 32 bit? 64 bit? Mac?
3) What exactly are you expecting to find and in which folder were you thinking whatever you were looking for is?
3) Can you specify the exact folder path for the folder you're looking at?
4) What is the version number of the latest software you installed for your BlackBerry?
5) What version of Desktop Manager are you using and why are you NOT using your DM to run the installation to your BlackBerry?

Re: os software update
If you're using a Mac, the only updates you can get are those officially released by your carrier. In that case there is no need to delete the vendor.xml file. The Desktop Manager will take care of the download for you.
Deleting the vendor.xml file is only important if you're installing an os version released by another carrier but for your model BlackBerry. That's one of the great things about BlackBerrys. If you don't want to wait for your carrier to update the available software for your BlackBerry you don't have to wait. Anybody's version of the operating system will run fine on your device. Only the vendor.xml file prevents it from installing, and you don't need that file. By deleting it you make the operating system generic and ready for any BlackBerry, as long as that os version is for your exact model BlackBerry.

Re: os software update
You said you are using Vista (I believe); 32 or 64 bit Vista?
For 32 bit Vista, look in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
For 64 bit Vista, look in c:\program files (x86)\common files\research in motion\apploader
You have to install both BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the handheld OS for the 9930 to your PC.

Well I found it. In the comman files like you said. Deleted the vendor file and hit apploader. Goes through the motions. However it says I was successful in loading the file in like 5 seconds. So I check and I am still on 7.0.0.250. I tried using the DM (which I have never done before) and it went through the motions for like an hour, so I check it and I am still on the same OS. Any thoughts?

Re: os software update
Make sure you are following the instructions TO THE LETTER (like looking in the right place for Loader).
Check this thread here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html
Make sure that ALL copies of Vendor.xml are removed from the PC.
Follow the instructions to the letter.

Re: os software update
You really need to ask yourself why you're going through all this trouble.
It's pretty clear that you're dabbling with something that is beyond your skillset.
Why would you want to go through all of this trouble only to install an unsupported OS on your device? You don't even need the update.
Not to mention, if you do get it installed, you're giving up the ability to update your device over the air when Verizon has an approved update for you.
My advice...Stick with Verizon approved updates and simply do a wireless update, over the air, right from your device.
No cables needed, no PC needed, no deleting files or going through all of this "trouble".
Just a few clicks on the BlackBerry, wait for the update to complete, and you're done.

Re: os software update
It sounds like you have old OS files in there that are messing with you. Go into your Control Panel and under Add/Remove programs make sure the newest OS you have is the only one showing in there. If you have to remove them all and just install the newest one just to be safe, or even if there is only the new one in there remove and re-add (might help).

Re: os software update
Also before you do any of that I would grab the new OS released yesterday and try do this with that one and not even worry about the older one you have been messing with.

Thanks for the support dude. Anyways, i got it done. I still dont have the compatibility file folder tho, and i did it thru the DM. As far as my skill set? I have done the upgrade numerous times in the past when i began with an 8900. I havent been with a blackberry for over a year. But now that im back the instructions changed due to OS 7. No worries though. As far as everyone else that tried to help me Thanks! I love being back to BB.
