Default Unlocking My Blackberry

I have the Blackberry Bold 9700, and I want to know what is the latest firmware of it, that can still be unlocked? And if there's a website that has the firmware to download.

Look at the top of this 9700 section to the posts at the top, you see one "Latest OS 9700..." and that's the latest officially released OS for the 9700. The download and instructions are there.

Also, what is meant by unlocked? Unlock the device from the carrier? If that is the question, it has nothing to do with the OS. And once unlocked, upgrading the OS will not lock it again.

One suggestion before you go trying to reload or upgrade the OS. Maybe you should play with the device and get to know what it can and cannot do before you go try to fix it.

downloading Desktop Manager and doing a backup would be a smart move also.

Well the phone is already unlocked, and I just got it, so I dont think I'd need to back anything up. And ok, just thought that it'd lock again if I upgraded or something, like the iPhone.

And by the way, does anyone know how old my OS is, cause mine right now is v.5.0.0.586 and platform 5.1.0.146.

Once a BB is unlocked, it is unlocked forever (unlike the iPhone).

Open device options > about and look at the third line down, or thereabouts.

My mistake....misread your question. Don't know for sure when it was officially released.

Why don't I just download the update from the BB DM? Is this one a hacked version or something?

I don't understand your second sentence. What is the "this version"?

The automatic upgrades desktop manager shows you are versions released by your carrier and not necessarily the latest versions. The latest OS sticky threads here on the forum are the latest OS versions. (You can install the OS released by another carrier. Just be sure it is the software for your model. And follow the directions.)

DM is free from http://www.blackberry/support and allows you to take full advantage of features available such as backup and media control. It will also allow you to upgrade locally from your pc without talking a chance on a slow or broken network upgrade.
Needing a backup when in trouble is usually when you find out why you should have made one.

SimpleMobile does not support Blackberry phones directly but they do offer BBxxx8217;s from equipment providers. The weird thing is they do not specifically state they offer a BB data plan. They do indicate the ability to do data and based on the information on their web site it looks like the do support standard cell phone data and that will allow you to do the things they offer but not BB data. Blackberryxxx8217;s require a specific data plan to allow the full use of features including push email.

No blackberry data plan = no blackberry data service = no blackberry internet browser.

If you have general mobile data service, you may be able to use a third-party browser. See the FAQ.

You may or may not be able to use the hotspot (wifi) browser if you have wifi available. Seems to depend on the carrier.

If you already have it you would know if it does work. Are you able to get to the internet via the SimpleMobile SIM chip?
