Default BES v4 Upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere...

We're running BES v3.6 and have been having some synch issues. We've been told that v4 will sort the synch issues and give us extra functionality.

So...

Has anyone had these synch issues and did they go away after upgrade?

The spec for the BES Server seems very high for what is, in essence, a mail forwarder. Does anyone have a realistic spec for a BES Server running 25 clients?

Main advantages of V4 or V3.6?

Many Thanks in advance

The BlackBerry device and it's functionalities speaks for itself...there's no need to highlight the features again. As for the number of users you're inquiring about they do not present any system/resource challenge, you could safely use a high-end desktop and simply do a "Single Box" install.
If you're are expecting some growth in your user base( lets say...1000+ users), then a separate server (dual procs, 1GB RAM, 100+GB HD ...for starters) may be in order. This is all dependent on which productivity feature will be most heavily used in your environment. Example, will your users be dealing with a large influx of attachments - recruiting firm for example, or is there a requirement for accessing backend applications securely via intranet/internet. These requirements will dictate what the specs should be.

As for a "mail forwarder"...that it does...and more. A couple of our clients use their BES infrastructure to facilitate a CRM application, upload on-site diagonistics to a backend app server, access on-line work orders. Just examples of an enterprise approach.
As for sync issues or any other issues, those will always come about simply because most organizations contend with a heterogeneous environment - messaging servers, different OS types, different SP levels, dissimilar networking components (routers, switches, firewalls..etc). This is just the nature of the beast...as I'm sure you're aware of.
This forum is filled with lots of issues/problems - some can be attributed to RIM themselves, others by misconfigurations on the part of admins and some by simply not adhering to the instructions.
With respect to your sync issues and whether an upgrade will sole it....if the issue has been properly identified and it's solution relates to a released SP or hotfix, then go for it. However, if your intention is to upgrade in the hopes that the issue will disappear without knowing it's true cause, then you'll most likely be transporting the problem to the later version.
You didn't say what sort of sync issues you presently have? What measures/fixes have you applied to date? Is your BES infrastructure at the current release levels for SPs and hot fixes? Are your BES users all running the same mail clients?
