External Mail not sending

We are having an issue with our BES. Seems internal mail is working fine, but we cannot send to an external mail. The icon comes up with a red X and the message status says: Transaction error - failure at service.
I know this sounds like an issue with the BES account but we have checked all the account settings (ie locked account, BES services, Exchange rights) but we still receive this issue.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks,
