Default Question regarding the BES 5 upgrade key

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Maybe the answer is here somewhere, but I can't find it. So sorry in advance if this question is obsolete.

For a client of ours, I had to migrate BES 4.1.7 to BES 5.0.2 on another machine. We ordered the upgrade key via our provider. When I had the provider on the phone, he assured me we had to enter the upgrade key in our BES 5 server. However, when we received the mail from RiM, we only had a download link to download the version upgrade software.

The situation now is that the new BES is installed with SRP, key and CAL for a trial version. This is limited to 20 users only, so I can't move everyone over using the Transporter Tool.

My questions now are:

1. Does this upgrade key really exist? If so, why isn't it added in the mail from RiM? Is that normal behaviour, or do I have to contact RiM that the upgrade key is not added?

2. Do I just have to use the SRP from the trial version, and use the CAL of my BES 4.1.7? If so, can I run the 2 BES servers simultaneously with different SRP's but with the same CAL?

3. This trial version expires after 90 days. What is expiring? The SRP ID + SRP authentication key, the CAL authentication key, or both? If it is both, I can just use the SRP ID and SRP authentication from my BES 4.1.7 in my BES 5, as long both servers are not running together?

I find this licensing stuff really confusing. What works with which version...

The upgrade will work on your current SRP and only. You can do an inplace upgrade or get a migration kit.

You can also swap out the SRP on the trial and use transported in bulk mode with services stopped on OLD BES.

using 2 BES servers with same SRP will get you blocked unless second one is configured for HA.

OK, thanks. So if I understand correctly, I can just stop the old BES, disable the services, put the SRP from the old BES 4.1.7 in my BES 5.0.2, move over the CAL's, and move all users via the Transporter Tool?
