Can't wait thanks for the heads up!

Is it usually 2 weeks or the following week?

I though RIM usually posts some type of service outage notification when they BIS maintenance/upgrades? Guess they stopped or I just missed it.

I know it's not an advertised feature of BIS 3.2, but have they sorted gmail reconcile yet?

(*sigh*)

Reconciliation of emails are working for me. It is a 4 hour delay I believe. That is probably the best we will ever get on BIS.

You can delete from mailbox and then find it deleted on your BB?

So anyone tried all the extra syncing? Before I trash all my stuff by accident can anyone confirm:
  • Syncing Calendar and Contacts prevents sync of those with Outlook (via DM) too?
  • If calendar or contacts get deleted or corrupted on the BB or in the cloud, that will get synced 'to the other side' with no backup?
  • There's no way to sync tasks or notes?
  • The only real backup strategy is to back up your BB using DM. But after I restore my BB what happens? Do the restored contacts/cal items get restored to Google, or get overwritten by the presumably later time stamp on the Google versions? Ie which way will the sync flow after you restore your BB from an old backup?

Ideally, I would like to move to the cloud, and it would be handy to have all the data synced periodically with Outlook too, if only as a backup.

Yes but it is not instant. I typically clear out my Gmail from the web at night, and by the time I get up the next morning it's gone. I think it's every 4 hours.

Yes, when Wireless Sync is enabled you will not be able to sync via the desktop manager, unless you disable the wireless sync, but when you re-enable the wireless sync any changes to the device will be reverted so it matches GMail.

Tasks and Notes, no not yet but I hope soon

I've been syncing my contacts with Gmail for a while, and the BB just reads the BIS configuration and re-downloads your contacts from GMail, no need to restore them after an OS upgrade or getting a new device.

Make sure you take a backup of everything first before you turn it on, for just in case purposes. I had to try the Contact sync twice before it worked correctly.

That's not good. I didn't mean when you have a device change or OS upgrade.

Suppose you, say, delete a load of contacts by accident on your BB or they get corrupted. They sync to Google so now your Google contact list a bad/incomplete too. So you restore your BB to an old point in time when all your contacts were there, and Google then re-downloads *its* (bad) version of things back to the BB, so you're no better off/your restore is ineffective?

If that's not what happens (does anyone know?), what *does* happen, and in what circumstances?

I don't thinks your contacts would be deleted from the phone but the new entries on the phone should be added to Google contacts.

You can do manual backup anytime by disabling the Wireless Sync. just make sure you re-enable it. (GMail also has the option to export your contact list to a csv file so you can backup that way)

If you delete contacts from your BB when Gmail sync they will be deleted. They Sync, so whatever happens on side eventually happens on the other.

I'm not going to say it can't happen but since I got my contact sync working, I have not had any problems. No issues with corruption. And I've had it enabled for a months, since I have gotten my 9650.

And I will probably enable Calendar sync the first change I got, so I can always update this thread with my findings.

Hmm. So I tried it. Both contacts and Calendar synced, but the version at Google shows duplicates. Calendar entries 7 times!! Not ready for prime time, sadly

I have seen that will with BIS 3.1 when I first enabled my Contact Sync.

From the GMail Web Interface, use the "Merge" contacts feature. I did that so It merged all the duplicates. Keep in mind you might have to select all the duplicates first. However I haven't used the GMail Contacts interface.
