I did the "Show All" on the home menu and no icon. I went to the applications folder. Not there. I checked the download folder. Not there either. I changed the theme from the default to the Zen theme, still no icon. It is listed on the Settings->Applications menu under "Add-On" but nothing. I did the battery pull a couple of times, still no icon anywhere. As a test, I downloaded and installed Google Maps and it is working as well. It placed the icon in the download folder by default, but I moved it. It has been 24 hours and the Google Maps icon is still present, but not the BB Maps. Strange. I performed the JL_Commander wipe and reinstalled, but same thing happens.

Anyone have some insight? I sure would like to keep playing with the BB Maps.

Thanks in advance,
Don
I'm on the same OS version. Both with 4.6 and now with 5.0.0.464, the same thing happened to me. The only way I could replicate when the app would (sometimes) disappear is after opening the browser to the mobile.blackberry.com page, then closing the browser. Otherwise, Maps seemed to stay put. Strange.

My OS is 5.0.464. I don't have BIS or BES plan. Only regular data plan from my mobile operator Mtel in Bulgaria. Unfortunately I also cannot managr Blackberry Maps to appear on my menu. Installed new theme, but no sucess. Any ideas?

I'm gonna smash this phone if I can't make the maps working . I tried all possibilities in order to make maps working. They are installed but can't see the icon. I also tried google maps, and garmin, I keep getting some network failure. It is unbelievable. On omnia was so much easier, but that phone sucks. Anyway if anyone has a new solution please give me an advice, before I really smash this phone. Thanks!

Just to clear up some issues.

for whatever reason at&t blocks the download of BBmaps. You use to be able to do perform a desktop update and include the package and by switching to the a 3rd party theme the icon would appear and be useable. However....sometime in the last year or so(I forget- may have been near the visual voice mail release). They blocked this ability to access via 3rd party themes as well.

ls.ribbons or whatever it is called is basically a placeholder junk file for the actual application on AT&T.

I created a phone OTA website a while back to try and get into the OS and received somelevel of success. (I could send/publish my location in bbm (v5)) but the icon is never "directly" accessible.

So in short. It can't be done anylonger. You however can install the bbmaps using a desktop & OS update but it will only be accessible via applications like BBM/Poynt.

Yeah it blows...

from your phone browser go to mobile.blackberry.com/home.jsf?local=en_us and download blackberry maps. when you hit the download button you will only get the icon since it is already installed on your os.

Default I spoke too fast

It worked in the morning then I did the 5.0 upgrade and forget about it. I lost my keyboardlock.my BB maps and now I go to the BB site and the maps are not there on the home page. when I put the bold in the carrior at night in bedside mode the keyboard stays lit too.Beware the 5.0 is no fix at all right now too many bugs in it.

Can anyone confirm if it work with the stock 4.6 (at&t carrier software). I gave up trying months ago, just curious.

It may because of the 5.0 upgrade that it is functioning. Didn't think about that one.

Ok ,
First you need to download a theme that is non ATT.
try the first post on this thread.

The download BB maps from RIM
BlackBerry - PDA GPS - BlackBerry Maps at BlackBerry.com

Then go to the site from the BB browser.

mobileapps.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?code=maps_sbi

The BB maps icon will be in the applications folder of the new theme.
IT will NOT be in any ATT theme.

Both links work better from the BB but the maps app can be downloaded via your computer with the BB connected. It will not work (download) without it seen by Rim.

The second link will download an Icon to allow it to display on the NON att theme.

Default Works again!

1. Changed my theme to Blackberry Silver (came installed on my Bold, in addition to the AT&T theme).

2. Input my email address at:
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Maps Download

3. In the email Blackberry sent to my Bold, followed directions to download and install Blackberry Maps.

4. Icon showed up on my Home screen!

Here is how to get BlackBerry Maps back on your beloved Bold:

1. Download the Bold Software from AT&T

2. Install it on your computer and use Desktop Manage to Add/Remove Applications

3. Select BlackBerry Maps to be installed by checking it

4. At this point Maps will be installed, however, it will still no show on your phone due to AT&T hiding it from view.

5. You can show it by using any other theme than AT&T's. I have built a basic theme that mimics the AT&T theme as close as possible that you can download if you don't want to build your own with the CDK.

6. Switch to your alternate theme and Maps will show up as a compass in the main ribbon.

EDIT: I attached some screenshots so you can see what the theme looks like as well as BlackBerry Maps being shown. (Note the background is one of the preloaded ones on the device)

Please let me know if you have any comments or trouble with this!

Cheers,

Jacob

Default Re: HOWTO: BlackBerry Maps on the Bold (AT&T)

I dowloaded the ribbon and got the icon to show up on the main screen but when I open bb maps all I see is a shaded screen. I know it working because I can pick up the gps signal and see my speed and heading, but I cannot see the maps. I am running ATT bold 9000 with the newest Rogers 900 OS, with a non ATT theme. I am also in a 3G area.

Any help would be great. The icon has also been disappearing randomly, no clue why.
