RIM Announced in the coming months the Bold 9700, Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G will all get OS 6.

Nice. But I'm still getting a 9800

It's being tweeted on the internet as RIM is doing their press conference right now.

Link I found was this

Ah, thanks for sharing. I forgot all about Twitter since I've been in meetings all morning - ARG!!

This will make a lot of 9700 users very happy to hear.

Yes, especially all of the new features (webkit browser, integrated social network stuff, wireless music synch, etc etc.)

It will be a few months, but it's coming. Vendors have to test and prepare to support the OS.

I can't wait to get my users on it.

This is good news indeed for all the 9700 owners. RIM has sold a metric assload of them too, so there were a lot of potentially peeved customers out there. Kudos to RIM for handling this in a manner that won't push customers to the Droid or iPhone. Those are a couple of HOT devices, and this is not the time for RIM to alienate any users.

I see links have already been posted, but here's the BGR story: BlackBerry 6 to be available for Bold 9700 and 9650, Pearl 3G « Boy Genius Report

Not so fast... There was a rumored 9700 with 512mb.. I hope this isn't just for them.

Let's wait until we get some more information posted by RIM....

Darn. I wonder if you are right.

Is there a precedent for RIM making a signifant change like that and keeping the same model number? I don't know.

That's the 9780 you're talking about....not the 9700. The 9700 will get OS 6, but will have a smaller amount of free memory to install apps on.

No, there have been reports about a 9700 upgrade in addition to reports about the 9800. How true and what actually happens I have no idea.

Since Pearl 3g which is 256mb will get it, most likely we will too.

from what little I've seen - the new 9780 (upgrade to Bold 9700) is basically the 9800 with a smaller, non-touch screen. Otherwise has all the goodies - memory, storage, 5 MP camera, OS6, etc..

Might actually be the winner for business users :(

Ok, I admit to being confused, and maybe your information answers my question above about an upgrade having the same model number or not.

Yeah talk about waste of freakin' money! I had an 8520 for 1 month then was sick of the slow EDGE browsing....and I wanted to GPS, so I gave it to my GF and plunged on to teh 9700 bandwagon and was so pleased! Now TRA decides to throw my BB in the dustbin with this rule! DU and ETISALAT are like they'll make sure they come up with alternatives...heh.....what alternatives to a perfect messaging system and perfect push e-mail service!
