Angry Unusually Heavy Network Traffic

BES 4.1
60+ users

I have a user here (unfortunately exactly a member of executive board) who, since yesterday, have real trouble using his BB. The old device he was using for a long time started all of a sudden to exchange data with the mobile network continuously. The two arrows on the display changing from receiving to sending and vice versa. The device is so slowed down, that even simple tasks to scroll down or open an email take pretty long time.
Yesterday evening I replaced his older device with a new BlackBerry 9000 Bold. The activation run smoothly und everything was functioning. He went on vacation earlier today and shortly I receive an email saying his new device running in the same trouble. He has no any additional applications installed. He receives maybe 1 email in 5 minutes in average. Other devices connected to our BES are not affected.

I have called the carrier and was informed this cannot lay on their side :( as we are using BES.
I revised application protocol on BES, everything alright.
I have reviewed MAGT and SYNC logs, nothing unusual

All this leaving me at a loss….

Hope someone has an idea what could I do more…?

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply.

The software version on the device is 4.6.0.216

Content potection was not activated and security settings were left default. I have no access to the device at the moment but I am almost sure he did not activated it afterwards.
It is also the only "default", not modified policy being assigned on the domain level.

Check the memory on the device:

How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone
Document ID: KB14320 (blackberry website:support and services)

He could possibly need a media card

Is this a refurbished device: His device software could be corrupt

You can reload the device software from the wireless provider website using Desktop Manager.

It is MS Exchange Server 2003, where user's mailbox resides.

Thank to all of you for your replies. I will check the available memory as soon as he is back from his vacation.

When checking the server, the statement says Memory 125 Mb.

Should be enough for normal operation? Is it?

125 MB is okay. Does your boss have a huge mailbox in Exchange or is his inbox full of messages?

On the bold 125MB is the total device memory not the free memory.

I've seen the older OSs on the bold have issues with memory cards from other older BBs. The 5.0 OSs seem way better.

When you changed devices for him, did you do a backup/restore? Or just activate against BES? If the former you might want to do a selective restore and only move what's absolutely required.
