A really curious one this. We have a public folder on our Exch 2003 called Staff. In this are contacts for all members of staff including their email addresses. We also have a number of other public folders with contacts in them: Company Contacts, Hotels, Suppliers and others.
Our blackberry users need a selection of these contact folders as well as their own mailbox contacts, so instead of using the wireless PIM sync from the BES, we use the Sync facility in Desktop Manager to manually select (at initial setup) the selection of contact folders each person wants.
Final piece of the jigsaw is this: in Active Directory, each staff member has multiple SMTP email addresses set up. So jo shmo has
and
and .de and .it etc, etc. with the Primary (default) SMTP set to reflect where their home office is - mostly .com.
Back to the blackberry: When a user plugs their blackberry into desktop manager and syncs, all the contacts from all the specified public folders are dutifully sync'ed to his device. However, upon inspection of contacts sync'ed from the Staff public folder, the email address it has is NOT the one that is in the contact's entry in the Staff public folder, but is the first in the list of the numerous SMTP email addresses that user has in Active Directory.
So how/why did Desktop Manager go through the Staff Public Folder into AD to get the SMTP address, and why did it pick to first one on the list rather than the Primary?
... and the key question is how do I rectify this?
Many thanks for any thoughts/advice or a solution. cheers.
