Default 9520 Roaming on ATT

Please Login to Remove!

Model: 9520 unlocked and on ATT

OS: 5.0.0.436

I recently got my hands on a Vodafone UK Storm 2 9520. Has been unlocked and followed the steps in the sticky to use on ATT. I successfully got it to connect to the ATT with no problems at all due to the excellent writeup.

I am noticing one problem with connection that I am hoping someone can assist me with. Before this phone, I had a Bold 9000. While driving through some areas of my regular commute to work, I would go to 1 bar of EDGE or no signal. In those same areas, the 9520 tends to drop to lowercase edge with the triangle icon next ATT indicating that it is roaming. Usually doesn't last long, but annoying.

I thought maybe the SIM card might be to blame, it's about 3.5 years old and has been in a Nokia, BB 8310, BB 9000, 2 months in an 3Gs, and now the 9520. I gave my 3Gs to my wife but when I bought it they left the SIM card for the iPhone in the box. If I inserted it into the 9000 and called ATT to activate, does anyone think that might assist in reducing the amount of time it drops to roaming and lowercase edge?

I haven't tried to install a new OS yet, as I don't know if that might help.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd recommend dropping by an ATT store and getting a SIM swap for your current. Just tell them you're getting too many "edge" drops, and they should do it. You don't need tell them you're using the 9520 -- doesn't matter, but they probably won't understand and blame the device instead.

I'll give that a go and report back. Thanks.
