As most of you know, pressing power button twice will yield the brightest LCD setting (ie. over 100% brightness). Is it possible to store that setting somehow? In other words, keep the super bright as default setting.

As was previously said, nope. I asked the question already and have been looking for a "hack" but nothing yet. I found some apps that seem to claim they'll do it but nothing works :(

Go to options, screen keyboard, and set the default brightness to 100%! I know it gets slightly brighter with the power push, but come on - that's bright. The battery usage is likely the reason for that being the highest setting.

That advice only works on the 8700 series, it is not available for the rest of us.

I was under this impression. Because there is a light sensor, when it is darker the phone isn't as bright and the backlit keys activate. When the Phone is in a light enviornment the lcd becomes brighter and the backlit keys deactivate. If the phone is in a dark place and the lcd is darker you can push the power button once and it will light up to 100% as it would if it was in a place that is really light. I dont think pushing the power button makes it go above 100% it just brings it up to one hundred percent if it isn't already there. I actually think that is how it goes...it isn't an issue of making the screen extra bight...its just making it as bright as it would in a light enviornment.

I think that's right. It goes from whatever level it is at to full 100%, not, say, 104% or whatever....

I think you guys confused the original question. Hitting the power button once does bring it up to 100%, that is correct. However, hitting the button twice makes it even brighter.

If you turn off the auto adjustment and set it to 100% then in theory your LCD should be at 100%. However, if you hit the power button twice, it will still make it brighter which means hitting the power button raises the lcd to a brightness level beyond 100%

And no, you can't make that the default

Dwlace - i started from black screen. if you start with default lcd setting, you press once for super mode.

what i am saying is this. When yous tart from a black screen and hit your power button twice it isn't going over 100%. It is going to its full power. The lcd brightness level when you hit it once is less than 100 percent. As you know hte 8700 has a light sensor and it is designed so that when you are in a dark area and dont need as bright of a screen to see it lessens the power usage of the LCD making it the first level of brightness. Then when you are in a light place where glare might be an issue, it uses all of the brightness *the same as hitting the button twice* . So your question was can you make that the default. There should be a setting about auto adjustment of light. If you turn that off and set the brightness to 100% then it will always be as bright as it possibly can be.

Point being- There isn't a % of brightness that is over 100%...

Actually, there are four levels, not three. Screen off, reduced brightness (in subdued light), normal or the 100% level (for bright light conditions) and a level above this only accessable by pressing the light button when at the 100% level.
You can test this by, in a well lit room, shading the upper portion of the 8700 screen for about 15 seconds and watching the screen dim. Remove the shading and the level will return to the bright level then at this level press the button and see extra bright screen.

ok last thing i will say about this but i am 100% sure that my phone only has 3 levels. I can push the power button until the cows come home and in any combination possible and i will only have three levels...black, bright and brightest.

Then maybe your 8700 is defective. Did you try the test I suggested? It works exactly as I said on mine. I agree that pressing the button only gives three levels. It maybe the three levels there is also related to the ambient light.

Never mind with the defective unit. It is defanitely related to the ambient level. Just did another test. The button gives, starting from a lit screen, I'll call it current level, the next level, pressing the button again gives the blank screen. Pressing a third times returns to what I called the current level.

Now the big point, if the "current" level is the dimmed level, the "next" level is the normal or bright level. If the "current" level is the normal level, the "next" Level is extra bright.

Hope this makes sense, but there are 4 decernable levels, but the button alone only runs thru 3.

im gonna say "ok" for the sake of everyone else and myself. I've only ever seen three different levels on my phone, black, then the level its at when im in a dark room and then the level its at when im in a light place. BUT i've said all i can say about it now and if i argue anymore i willjust be repeating myself.
