I don't doubt it, as they are no longer selling 8330s online. It can't be a priority of theirs to release new operating systems for devices that they've already more or less shelved.

Come on, Tour 2!

I believe you are correct since KB17984 was just updated today and doesn't include the 8330 (or the Pearl Flip) anymore.

I am 99.999% sure they both used to be on the list.

One bad thing about this OS (5.0 in general on the 8330) is the lack of available memory for apps. Even with a shrunken OS, every time I decide to install something new I have to pick something else to uninstall. And I don't have a ton of apps to begin with, so this is frustrating. At this point I'm swapping as many of them as I can for the web page version like Facebook, Evernote, and my weather app.

Considering the 83xx series was a top selling smart phone for months, I'm kind of surprised they are not pushing 5.0 a bit more.

Thanks for posting this!

The 5.0 loaded just fine on my girlfriends' 8830. She has service thru Verizon. On the options/about screen, it just says 8830 - NOT 8830m.

The device has an MEID, NOT an ESN.

HOWEVER, now she can't send or receive emails or access the internet - text messages come through just fine.

I've sent service books to it, pulled the battery 3 times....any ideas?

Thanks!

Well, the fact that the 8330 is the only 83xx model that supports 5.0 and it is extremely buggy on the 8330. I can see why they're not pushing it harder. Also, keep in mind that this is only a CDMA phone and the CDMA market is a lot smaller than the GSM market. Another reason may be that the 83xx is at its end of life. Those could be the reasons that they're not pushing 5.0.

What happens when she tries to send an email or use the web? Does she get a red X? If so, open the message with the red X and what does it list next to Status?

If the browser is missing, try going to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Press the Menu Key > Select Register Now.

Very good point. I guess I just want a decent 5.0 build for the 8330 hopefully the Tour2 will be released soon. LOL.
Considering this is a pretty high 5.0 build it either points to A. they just stopped working on the 8330 or B. Maybe they are still working on it?

I searched & didn't find anything on this; my girlfriend likes the spiffy new Precision theme she's seen on the brand new BB's - how can I get it on her 8330?

I just upgraded her to 5.0 last night, courtesy of this thread.

Thanks!!

This was for the 8330, not the 8130. That might be the problems. Not sure how to resolve.

I think this might end up being one of the last OS releases for the original Curve line up. I'm surprised it was released at all except that I suspect Boost has a young demographic and one of the headline features of this release is the threaded messaging so Boost probably thought it would be a good fit for them even with the bugs.

Default New for 5 minutes, and already 5.0

Ok so first hello, seems like a nice forum good to see all the chattyness. So i've had these 2 blackberries for under 5 days now, up in thunder bay ontario here. One for me, one for the wife, me being the geek have the duty of Hey figure all this crap out.

So...i've installed the software on the pc, downloaded some themes on it, copied media vids and music, email, blackberry account, organizer ,made the discovery that this thing wont play an avi, but mp4 and the like are fine, used the black berry store bought a few things, pay pal worked, noticed that i can't copy games from one handheld to the other (i really hope this isnt a if you install from the blackberry store its forever stuck on one)
think thats kinda stupid unless there is some loader. dont wanna download a bunch of crap software and mess up the berry and my server...which is sitting around 3tb of data. As we're all aware of the new trend of hiding crap in files or simply even browsing to a site.. those who use a popular "yarr matey torrent ship" site would have encountered the lovely hijacks that are employed via java and script now from simply going there. And let me tell you that chinese museum it brings you to is a lie... *smirks* Sorry going off on a tangent, anyways so i've done the basics.

Now i'm looking into making my own themes, ring tones etc etc. However, just like flashing a bios on a pc or anything you can, there are risks. Being very new to this i'm leary, dont need a fancy new paperweight.
So if i did install this little update, whats the method that would be applied to restore it to a prior version? should it be needed.

Well its been a slice, time to finish copying over all the phone #'s to the new phone. Ty again,

Cheers,

Icegreenhemp

The ESN is my device, which has plenty of data to backup/restore as well as 3rd party apps to load. So it should take longer. I am estimating around 60 minutes or so.
you should back up your data first. My MEID phone works great, the only thing is that Opera mini 4.2 does not work nor the beta version. Any sugestions?

Welcome to the forums.

Believe me, I know to backup my data. That was a test device with no data on it to begin with.

As for your issue, there is a beta of Opera Mini 5 that you may want to try.
