Any reason why? RIM creates all OSes and releases them to the carriers. The carriers then test and release what they see fit.

well i find it an insult that prepaid boost mobile which is owned by sprint lets it users get first shot at OS 5.0 yet us sprint customers who are under contract and pay more get nothing.I wrote to sprint about that and Im waiting for a reply. The prepaid phones should always get any os update after it has been released to contract customers first

They should, why?
Boost Mobile operates "independently" and can do what they want.
There is absolutely no reason to wait. But of course, you can.

I believe it has more to do with this being a new release for Boost Mobile. The 8330 is new to them and was just released. Where as the 8330 has been out for a LONG time on Sprint and Verizon. It was probably done for incentive to by an 8330 on Boost due to the new OS.
They were releasing the 8330's on Boost with this OS before it was released for us to install on our non-Boost 8330's.

Comparing this OS to the 5.0.0.328 hybrid I was running before:
Memory leak seems slightly worse on this OS than it did on the 5.0 hybrid OS I was running before. I'm needing reboots more often.
Either I am imagining things, or Google Maps absolutely sucks the life out of my phone now. Also, I noticed that although my phone was rebooting faster, once it had started up, it seemed to be "thinking" for way too long. Finally figured out that the Google Voice app is starting itself up now when the phone starts. It never did that before. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to not load itself on startup. (Ideas, guys?) I think the phone would be much snappier otherwise.
On the plus side:
Phone reboots faster.
The UI is smoother in this new release. Nothing huge, but some examples: Options > Themes now gives you options to reset only part of a theme instead of a whole theme, and the "Set Alarm" option in the Clock app no longer looks like DOS graphics.
The issue with the music player icon not showing up in certain 3rd party themes has been semi-fixed... the music player icon now shows up, and works fine, but the themes in question still don't recognize it (I still think this is a theme builder thing) so it shows up with a generic application icon. In addition - of all the crazy things - the Video and Pictures icons are showing up twice in these themes (WTF).
Everyone should definitely consider shrinking this OS.
@jsconyers: Have you noticed any phone reboot issues this time around?

I haven't placed a call that was more than 30 minutes since loading this OS. I will try to get to that tonight and see how my results are.
I do agree with you on the memory leak, however.

I've noticed some more things whilst I've been playing around with the new OS. Other than rubbing it in my mother's face that she can't download it yet since she's on VERIZON (haha), most of the apps that seemed to run slow in 4.5 run amazingly fast and smooth now. Pandora now runs smoother than when I had 4.5. Poynt runs ridiculously fast now as along with Google Maps. And Google Maps actually finds my GPS more often and maps directions quicker than before. The AppWorld, as well, runs significantly faster than before. I haven't been paying attention to the memory since I've been monitoring battery usage. I will pay more attention to it today since I will be using more apps than when I'm not going to work.

Also I was wondering... has anyone actually used the Bedside mode yet? I mean, throughout the night, used it as a clock or anything like that, and noticed how much battery it might drain? I hate using an actual alarm clock since the sound they choose to use to wake people up makes me angry when I wake up. I wouldn't mind using my BlackBerry again, I just like to have the time always there.

Yes, I've used it. Configure it in the Settings section before use. It saves my battery, generally, instead of sapping it.

What does her being on Verizon have anything to do with not being able to download it. As long as it is an 8330 and not an 8330m, anyone can install this OS. It is carrier agnostic once the vendor.xml file is deleted.

I have a cradle and charge my device over night, every night. I like the clock feature when it is sitting on the cradle. Also, typing this out made me realize something. In previous beta releases, I would always get the "insufficient power" message when I would place it on the cradle. I no longer receive that message with this release.
As for your comment about battery life, I wouldn't know as I charge mine at night. But, having said that, I do like the bedside mode feature.

I made a 1 hour 21 minute phone call last night with no reboot! That has always been the deal breaker for me in the past. Other than the memory leak, I don't see a reason to downgrade at this point.

Does the hybrid work on an 8330m? If so, can you post/IM a link?

Whew, that memory leak is wicked. Other than that everything seems to work pretty well. Bedside mode with the clock is nice but it leaves the screen brighter than I like, so I'm not sure I'll keep using it.

Yea, I lost my whole calendar..
I'd downgrade back to 4.5 but I just don't have the time... So I will live with 5.0 for a few more days.
It's really a damn sin.. These 5.0 features are just amazing!!

I've definitely felt the effects of the memory leak. Opera Mini and SoftReset don't work on my BlackBerry as well.
