Curve 8330 vs 8530
Please Login to Remove!
Currently using a curve 8330, happy with it, but starting to show its age, trackball sometimes not behaving, slower compared to friends with 9700 series bb's, no official os 5, etc.... and no wifi, which for various reasons I would like to have...
Thinking about the 8530, but have seen mixed reviews; some improvements, some 'downgrades'... Cheaper case, no flash, buttons may not be robust.. hard to tell from 'official' reviews (eg, cnet) because the reviews are so balanced it feels like a 50/50 decision....
Intereseted in hearing from people who have made the switch, or are thinking about it....

Just to name a few the 8530 has a faster processor, Wi-Fi, more memory and I think the track pad will be more reliable in the long run.

That is a tough call. I have an 8830 currently and will be getting the 8530 soon, which is a big upgrade for me. My wife has the 8330 and loves it.
Not sure it is worth it though. Most people are reporting that the build quality is not up to the same standards as the 8330. Plus the Tour 2 is just around the corner and should have twice the amount of memory the 8530 has. Of coarse your going to have to spend a bunch more on the Tour 2.

8530 Does not utilize EVDO RevA like the 9700 does, so the network speed will be the same as an 8330.
8530 Does not have a flash, in case you ever use that.
I had an 8830 then an 8330, I'm holding out for the Tour2/9650.
I would get th 8530, but I want the flash and EVDO RevA. The flash is a good flash light when I need it and I want the faster network speed. So I am trying to hold out..

I took the plunge....!!!!
Well, after trying out the 8530, I totally was sold on it... it felt solid, the keyboard felt really solid, the LED light aligned perfectly with its hole (a complaint I have seen on here before), and the track pad is incredible... The speed of the processor has greatly increased the speed of many of my previous apps, which blew me away.. Its lighter and thinner than the 8330, and it feels nice to hold.. I was worried about the battery cover... no issues there, no wobbles etc.. LOVE the new OS, the BB buttons/Menu on the front I think are much better than the 8330... The wifi worked flawlessly, and I can let it sit streaming audio with Flycast .. battery life is similar, in my opinion, maybe a little shorter, though it might be my Flycast use....
As for the camera, I lined up both the 8330 and the 8530 and took the same picture without flash...the 8530's pic is much more color/light balanced... with the flash, the 8330 is better for really close pics where light is limited... but for my use I wont miss the flash at all... Thats a personal choice, so if its important, it aint there!
I LOVE it!

The LED light alligning with the hole, I've never seen a complaint about that before.
But it's always something I've noticed on my phone, it's slightly to the right of the hole (the whole hole lights up, but theres excess light showing through the lavender casing to the right). It doesn't bother me though. Hmm interesting.

Biggest difference in general?
Newer="Better/(More Money Hungie)" EVERYTHING. PERIOD. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Explanation: As tech continues, companies will find new ways to exploit it for financial gain, that's simple economics. It's how the world worked since the dinosaurs (or God), we, As humans/animals, will always try to get the biggest gain out of the least effort, and hence why confidence scams account for so much of our nations turmoil.
PM me if anything bothers you.

And with that, we'll just shut down the entire forum with the note "GET THE NEW STUFF" and leave it that.
Guess I'll have more free time now.

Does this mean when I have a problem, I can just buy something new and it will be fixed?
With my unlimited income this is a perfect solution.

Update
A few days have passed since getting the 8530, so far, NO crashes with trying lots of app trials, great wifi connectivity, definitely runs apps I had on my 8330 waaaay faster, and Im never giving up the trackpad... once you set the sensitivity to match your finger speed (like the mouse on your computer), its almost flawless and feels very intuitive.....
As for the geo-political aspects.... you decide on your own....

Wirelessly posted
After having several different Blackberry models (including the 9000), I like the 8530 the best.
