Default Problem unlocking Storm from Vodafone

Please Login to Remove!

Any help is appreciated here peeps.

My 18 month old daughter has thrown my Mrs's phone down the loo so after a recent upgrade to a storm 2 I want to pass my Storm over to the Fun Regulation Authority to allow her to ride out her contract.

I have a couple of MEP2 codes to try on my phone from a reasonably reputable source but the instructions they have provided to me on how to get my Storm off the accursed Vodafone network don't work.

They read:

1. Insert a the desired sim from a different network
2. Enter the MEP2 code when prompted

But, it simply doesn't prompt me. It just says "invalid SIM" at the top of the screen.

So, is there anyway I can force the Storm to prompt me to ask for the unlock code, or, do you have any hints on what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers

Wayne

Here are the steps that I have used on the Storm:

1. Turn off all of the wireless connections ( manage connections - turn all connections off )

2. Go to Options

3. Select Advanced Options

4. Select SIM Card

5. Hit menu select show keyboard

6. Enter mepd (you will not be able to see the typed info)

7. Enter the letters: mep2

8. Now it will say enter network mep code

9. Enter the code given you, usually about 16 digits

Default problem unlocking storm 2

I have a new storm 2 that has been supplied with an unlocking code. My problem is that i cannot get to a screen where i am actually asked to input the code.
I am doing the following:
1. SIM put in and all wireless turned off
2. Options, Advanced Options, SIM
3. mepd entered (nothing observed)
4. mep2 entered (nothing observed and i am not asked for anything)

I see the same thing with a t mobile and orange sim
I have spend hours trawling around youtube videos etc and the advice doesn`t really deviate from the above (which is not working).
Please help!

Check to see if you phone has been already unlocked.
Usually when the mepd window doesn't pop up that's why.
-Remove Sim
-Options
-Advanced Options
-Sim card
-New menu will pop up. Look for Networks
-If your device is unlocked it will read "disabled" or "inactive"
If it is still locked then there is an issue with the Blackberry software.

Dear JSanders,

Need your help.

I have just unlocked my Telus Storm 2 to use with FIDO. Right now everything seems to be working fine. However, I am not sure if the phone unlocked correctly.

Now I have both the FIDO & Telus numbers active on the phone at the same time. When I choose 'GSM' the FIDO number get activated & on choosing '1XEV' the Telus number gets activated. I do not have a data plan on the FIDO number yet; will get a FIDO data plan once I cancel my 1 month Telus activation. On choosing 'GSM', I get lower case 'edge' & not 'EDGE'. Is this because I do not have a data plan on FIDO? The Wi-Fi is working fine on both.

At the time of switching off the phone it still shows the Telus logo even when the FIDO SIM is active. When I do a battery pull with the FIDO SIM active the Browser icon disappears when it switches back on. However, if I then turn on 'I XEV' in the mobile network connections I get the Browser back & it stays there even if I switch back to GSM on FIDO.

Is this normal or is there something wrong with the unlock? My concern is whether things will work once I have the Telus number disconnected.

Please advice.

Thanks.

Sounds like it is unlocked to me, you can verify and see on the device, by following the steps in this link:
How do I determine if my BlackBerry is "unlocked"? - BlackBerryFAQ

Pretty odd having the two numbers active on there, but I am assuming it is because you have the GSM SIM in the slot, and it will see it when you switch the 1XEV to GSM.

You won't get full EDGE on the device until the Data Plan is active ON that number and that SIM.

Thanks JSanders. Followed the steps. The network shows 'Inactive' so it is unlocked.

I guess I just have to wait & see if things still work out fine once the Telus number is disconnected.

Till then I can use the data plan of Telus when I am away from wireless networks and still use my FIDO SIM on the phone. Pretty cool!!!!!

I have unlocked my Storm 2 to use on FIDO. I have a huge problem of dropped calls. I cant seem to be able to click on the answer key to pick up the call. Even if I manage to click the key the calls just drops & I go back to the Home screen. What could the problem be? Is it a software issue? How do I fix this?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Gamemaster, your carrier DU, has the BlackBerry Data Plan provisioned to your account.

No generic data plan will work.

Did you change the PIN/IMEI at the DU carrier BIS login site?
