I've done a search and read some of the topics, but i want to make sure i'm understanding this before i waste my money. I currently have a 7520 but I am thinkin of switchin to the 7100I.

Does it do textmessaging. I mean real textmessaging, Nextel is weird about this. Can you tell who they are from and reply to them.

And are the ringtones really louder.

Look in the thread where People have posted their PIN on this website as well as Howard Forums because some of those users have the 7100i and they can help you with that. You can also check this in an online manual as well. Or go to the local carrier store and check out a model there as well and ask the sales rep. Do a comparison of your current phone and the 7100i on www.phonescoop.com, which could possible reveal the answer there as well.

The 7100i can receive both SMS and MMS as you would expect with full info on sender. However, the 7100i can only send MMS...it WILL NOT send outgoing SMS. The unlimited data plan does not cover any outgoing MMS messages either, so if you rely heavily on it you'll want to add an additional texting plan.

yea, and I learned that the hard way. had $50 on my bill for messaging. after two hours of going round and round with them they waived it. I got their $15 messaging plan, which i think is a crock, cause the $45 unlimited data plan SHOULD cover it.

The unlimited data plan does include 100 inbound/outbound messages. While outbound messages do go as MMS the system will convert to SMS depending on the receiving phone.

so the short answer is that you can indeed do text messaging with the 7100I. That has always bothered me about the 7520, all that technology and you can't text message.
