Default Reboot after installing apps - whats the rule of thumb?

Please Login to Remove!

Is it necessary to do this after each application install? Is it necessary to not launch the app until after you reboot? What do you all do?

I ask this because today I got the Reset Software 502 error after installing Yelp!. I have gotten this error four or five times now. I also noticed through this repeating process that sometimes you have to reboot after a new install of teh same application on a reset Blackberry, sometimes you don't. I would guess my issues are coming from not rebooting before launching.
  • Device must be rebooted to complete install. My two options are Reboot Now and Reboot Later
  • Would you like to grant Trusted Application status? My options are Yes, No, and Help. Sometimes after this you are asked to Reboot Now or Reboot Later.

Any feedback would be appeciated.

Generally, rebooting is only necessary when the device asks for it. It's never a bad idea though as it cleans the memory and refreshes the device. It's a soft reset.

I always grant an app "Trusted" status. It saves you from having to approve connections every time you run it. Of course, if you install apps from sources you don't know about, you run the risk of compromising your device and your data. Caution with new apps is just plain smart.

I haven't gotten any of those since my old 8300, and that was years ago! That usually means some app isn't playing nice, and often a software upgrade fixes it. If a soft reset cures it, then perhaps you don't need the update, but I did back in the day. It was getting bad, but once I updated the OS all was well.

No, as stated above, you'll be notified if a reboot is necessary.

Whenever I've gotten a 502 error, rebooting never fixes it, it takes an OS install.

I've never gotten the 502 error. Are you intalling apps that are not meant for your device or OS possibly?

Edit, also what else does the error say? does it say bad gateway, or http error?

Oops I see you said Reset Software 502 error.

I am 100% sure the apps are meant for my device. Like I said this even happens when I am installing from the app store.

Also even though it just gave me a 502 message, of course I have to be an idiot and go back and try the software again...and in every case it installs fine.
