I understand what the mail store service is doing but my question is WHY does the BES need to maintain a contact list in the database?

Are device Lookups searching a contact list in the Config DB???

Is the contact list in the DB the entire GAL ??

Does this enable support multiple GALs in an Exchange Org.???

The BlackBerry Mail Store Service performs the following actions:
• synchronizes your organization's contact list to the BlackBerry Configuration Database
• updates the contact list in the BlackBerry Configuration Database every 24 hours automatically
• permits the BlackBerry Administration Service to access user account information that is stored in the mailbox or mail file
on the messaging servers
• exposes an API that the BlackBerry Administration Service can use to connect to the BlackBerry Mail Store Service
• searches for contact information on behalf of the BlackBerry Administration Service

I think I get it- Correct me if I'm wrong....

Is this so that the BAS / Web console can interface with user accounts while not contacting the GAL/LDAP directly?

Basically the BAS searches the config DB for users

the Mail Store Service is responsible for maintaing users in the DB
