Hi guys, my contract is due to expire very soon, and I've had my Curve 8320 for nearly 18 months now.

My question is which of the 2 would be a better upgrade? The 8900 or the Bold?

The 8900 has more on device memory, double that of the Bold. And, it is closer to the size of the 8320 you are accustomed to.

But I personally like the Bold keypad better.

I also like the bold keyboard. One thing to keep is mind is 3G on the bold.

If you are a heavy data user/teather-er, I'd go with the bold for 3g

From using both, I have to say they are both great devices and depends on what you want. 8900 has a better camera (not even comparable), more memory (although I find the Bold's to be fine), Bold has a better keypad than the 8900 but that's due to the bigger size of the device.

Bold is a lot larger than the 8900 if you were concerned with size. Screen size..the 8900 has a larger dimension but physical size the Bold is larger so it's a little better on the eyes. Charger would be the same from the 8320 that you have so you wouldn't have to buy anything new could use the same car charger and such. Although the micro adapters are only 5 bucks so it's cheaper than buying a new one.

I've been using the Bold the past week and enjoying it, but miss my 8900 for the camera and size. But the Bold is fine when it comes to carrying it, it isn't like a huge device

Side by side comparison:

That said, I love my Bold. I would have liked the bigger screen and additional memory, but the Bold still rocks, IMHO.

Bold for sure. I can't see why anyone would want to stick with EDGE.

It makes sense to go with a 3G phone rather than EDGE. My network Orange UK, however does not even support EDGE at most places, so I'm not sure 3G is even supported. Does anyone have a Bold with Orange UK? How does it perform?

Orange operates EDGE is most of the big citys in the UK, and 3G has huge coverage right the way through the UK.

I have the same choice to make btw at the start of Aug, do I go for the Bold or the 8900....

At the moment, I'm leaning towards to bold myself, but that's because it has the whole package if a little bulkier than the 8900.

Id like to point out that EDGE is the US equivilent of GPRS in the UK.

You will never see EDGE on a UK device.

Ummm,
No, you're wrong, EDGE is also known as Enhanced GRPS.

You get EDGE in London and many other places over the UK Orange is the only operator in the UK to support it.
Trust me, I support 3,500 BlackBerry users in the UK, many in London, EDGE is not GPRS, and it is in the UK.

Check out Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more info or this one from Orange explaining the difference http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sat...=1126544420860.

I've seen EDGE on UK's O2 network, in London, but never for Orange UK in London.

Still can't decide whether to get the Bold or 8900.
Is the Bold's 600mhz CPU a significant advantage over the 8900?

i'm with o2 and have the 8900 and don't miss 3G which i had with my old nokia. on theBB network the way the 8900 handles EDGE/GPRS makes the loss of 3G negligible

i also beleive the extra internal memory is a definite plus for the 8900

I have an 8900 and love it. Sure the keyboard is smaller than that of the Bold, but once you get used to it, it works just fine. The size of the device is really nice compared to the Bold too. One thing, as all have stated, the lack of 3G is a downer. But if you don't use the browser much and you mainly use email, it's just fine...
