My suggestion is to get a proper BlackBerry data plan.

Does not work here too.
I have everything including Blackberry data plan,
When I use the wifi browser and connected to the Wifi Network, Mediaplayer starts, but then I get "there was an error displaying the video".

I've always had problems with youtube on my BOLD with Rogers. I think its on Rogers end that this is happening as many users on other networks seems to be working fine....

I have no problems playing youtube videos on my bold. Also even some sites that arent generally made for mobiles I can watch videos(kinda hit and miss). Not sure what the problem/difference is. Im currently running 4.6.0.162.

I've tried the Xenou YouTube Player and was greatly disappointed I'm afraid. If we can stream YT and others over wifi, it would look much better, similar to iPhone over wifi.
We really need an answer to the wifi limitation, as I'm in the field of mobile content streaming. Any ideas as to why the Bold will not stream over wifi is greatly appreciated, and I don't want to hear "search the forum for such a common question" or "google is your friend". I have not been able to get youtube to work on my Bold either. I am running OS .282 and still no go. I have tried it over WiFi and I get an error. Tried it over 3G and still get the "error playing" message.
I have a full BlackBerry data plan.

i dont watch vids on youtube, but whenever this issue arises, i go have a try and have never had a problem over GPRS. just tried with 3G and didnt have a problem.
and just tried over wi-fi, had no problem.
when on 3g it did ask to switch to wap for streaming, but still worked.
wi-fi was on and turned off mobile network to make sure it was on wi-fi.

Well I really don't wish to watch videos from YouTube on my device, but I would like to know why it doesn't work, so that's why I have been trying.

This has happened with me on certain OS builds that I had installed. Specifically the last I remember was .266. I've recently upgraded to the recent 5.0.0.100 and noticed YouTube streams beautifully.
As for the quality, the wi-fi streaming doesn't make the quality better. Our devices will still access the same quality .3gp file to view. I remember reading that YouTube converts their videos to a specific format for iPhone users and a lower quality version for "the rest".
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, of course =)

Yes, I think I've come across the same info regarding iPhone. I'll try updating my O/S to see if it helps, that was the one thing I was unsure of.

The response to this is easy.... Walk to a PC and go to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. then you can use a 17" or bigger screen for your youtube. lol
