Default Data Plan a MUST?

Please Login to Remove!

So my girlfriend and I just got a pair of Storms. We both have the Data plans etc. However, she never uses the web, or anything. The extent of her data usage is bb messenger to me (keep in mind we still have unlimited texting). We switched from T-mobile to Verizon because I was set with a discount, but now with the Data plan we actually pay just a tad more than with T-mobile. With T-mobile, we had BB Pearls and I had a Data plan and she didnt (although we didnt have a plan together). So, does the Storm NEED a data plan, or can I call verizon and cancel her Data plan, keep mine, and save 30 some dollars a month?

With Big Red, if you have a BB, you will have to have a data plan. No way around it.

Other carriers have indicated that they will move to this policy as well.

What's the point of a Blackberry without a data plan? If she doesn't use any of those features, wouldn't it probably be best to just get her a simple cell phone?

My thoughts exactly. However, with this thread, the OP doesn't have much of an option as Verizon requires a data plan on BlackBerry devices.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was asking a legitimate question. If he has the option to pay $30 less per month if she's not using a Blackberry vs. paying $30 extra for a 2nd data plan that she won't even use, why not switch? I'm asking this under the assumption that what scassel about VZW requiring data plans with the use of Blackberries is true.

Forgive the reply, but in the last few days, this exact topic has been beaten to death and at least three people have been banned from the forum as a result of an all-out flame war.

My suggestion... let it go.

There will always be people who want to use a BlackBerry without a data plan. It's perfectly fine if it suits their needs. Accept it and move on.

Ahh I gotcha. I think you misinterpreted my post, though, as I had no intentions of starting any type of flame war. I don't see the point of using a BB without a data plan, but I'm not going to attack or insult anyone for making that choice. I was more or less suggesting that if he was intending to spend less with Verizon than he was with T-Mobile, but is going to end up spending more because of the extra unwanted data plan, than it might be best to get her a regular cell phone to save the money.

No worries. Had I known people had been arguing the topic of BB's w/o data plans so much in the last few days to the point of people getting banned, I definitely would have worded my post differently.

To the OP:
How long have you had the phones? I believe that if it is less than 30 days you can get another (non BB) for your girlfriend.
If it is more than 30 days, get in touch with VZW and present your case and ask if you can go to another phone. It can't hurt.
If all of this fails, for your sake, tell gf that you will cover the extra $30 because if "girlfriend not happy nobody happy!"

It wasn't you I was worried about. I was more concerned with the replies your post was going to get.

You're one of the good ones in my book.
