Default When you move mailboxes...?

Please Login to Remove!

I was on the phone with RIM the other day for some issues. He said that if you were going to move mailboxes from one mailbox store to another on the same Exchange server, you need to reboot the BES server or restart the BES services. Otherwise, BES will look at the old mailbox store for the mailboxes and will hang exchange. Have you heard of this?

Yup, that is how the BES works. If you do nothing the BES looks in the same store. When you restart the BES services or Server itself it polls for the mailbox and sees the move.

I have not heard of it hanging Exchange though, I could see it causing more traffic but not hanging it.

I have heard of this too. For some reason BES does not see a store change (yes its weird but it does not happen often) but it usually sees a mail server change.

RIM engineer also said that if you don't restart the services or reboot the box, BES will generate those CDO keys in the registry under the mapi profile, which are bad.

It doesn't hang Exchange. If you move stores, you need to restart the BES services. If you move servers, you shouldn't have to restart. They say it'll automatically detect server moves - not store moves.

RIM told me that if you were going to move mailboxes from one exchange server to another, you don't need to restart the BES services or server, but you can use handheldcleanup.exe tool. Is he right?

You don't have to use anything when you move from one server to another if you don't want to. I also found out you can move the BES account from one store to another (same server) and it doesn't cause an issue either.
