Default JSR-179 and 7250

Please Login to Remove!

As many of you are aware, verizon and sprint released an update to the blackberry 7250. On my sprint 7250, the version is now 4.0.2, which, according to RIM, includes JSR-179, the location api. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting it to work on the 7250 w/the new firmware.

Thanks.

While v4.0.2 includes the APIs for GPS, Verizon and Sprint devices (at this point) don't allow you to get a GPS reading. Only Nextel.

For some reason, Verizon and Sprint only allow GPS for E911. As soon as the two carriers support full GPS, I'm sure the device will support it. Until then, it is in the carrier's court.

The reason is that all cell phone devices are required by law(U.S law) to provide GPS 911 capabilities by 2006.

I know why they added it (E911), I'm just not sure why they haven't exposed it so RIM/Us can use it.
