Unlocked BlackBerry use with foreign service provider

I have an unlocked t-mobile BlackBerry with me in France. I purchased an SFR sim card with prepaid minutes on it, however when I put it in the phone and turn the phone on, it says "invalid sim card" and the signal strength reads "SOS". I read something about changing the Band on the phone, however I have found no option to do this. If someone could please tell me where I am going wrong it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it's not unlocked. And there is no "changing the bands" on phones. Not even Blackberrys. Anyway, the BB 7100 is GSM quad-band so it will work flawlessly on European carriers as it is right now.
