I'm not saying it is but I have found, on both OS's, that this will not happen if I have BBM closed or minimized. So that would lead me to believe that it is BBM causing the issues.

Mmm, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks :D I'll try to minimize it as much as possible before closing my phone. But sometimes i"m actually using it, and just put the phone down and i'll pick it up after a few minutes to continue the convo and it will lock up, I suppose. Should I complain to BB or Vodafone about this!? Where will I get heard the most? hehe thanks guys

Hasn't happened to me so far (since yesterday afternoon) on .85.

It did lock up this morning when I unplugged from the charger, it got stuck on the bedside clock and required a battery pull.

Well, it didn't happen yesterday. It started today. I believe it is BBM, infact, I pretty much know it is. It's pissing me off. I've seen people complaining about it in other forums. I hope this gets fixed. For the time being I'm going to just try and minimize as much as possible BBM.

This is great information and should be sent to RIM.

Funny that I don't have BBM installed (I use Yahoo instead - which had its share of problems before going to the same codebase as MSN/Live and AIM).

Which magnetic case do people recommend? Genuine RIM (is there one?) or Seidio?

Well, it froze. I ended up leaving it on my desk with a BBM conversation going, and the screen timed out (went dark). I did NOT lock it nor did it lock automatically.

I picked it up, hit the screen to light it up, and it was frozen. I could see I had a new message and I could even read it since the convo was open, but it was totally dead, I had to do a battery pull...

I was having a lot of problems with my Storm, not being able to unlock it, having it freeze up and not respond at all, and getting the white screen with an error message in the middle. I ran JL_Cmder to completely clear it (actually wiped it about 6 times cause I'm a paranoid freak), then reloaded just the .85 OS and a couple apps I can't live without (Windows Messenger, Facebook, Viigo, and a couple others). Now it's like a new phone. I was having to pull the battery about 6 times a day. I wiped it 3 days ago... the day I wiped it I had to pull the battery twice, yesterday I pulled it once, and today I haven't pulled it yet (since 11:45 yesterday). It also seems to run much faster, and generally have a lot more memory available. I'd give a wipe with JL_Cmder a shot. If your not familiar with it, you can search the boards and find everything you need to know about it.

I haven't had a SINGLE problem. Everytime I lock my phone, I just double back out (back back button) of my BBM conversation and I'm good to go. Not a single lockup. That's what forums are for! I <3 YOU GUYS! hehe.

I've tried backing out of BBM and it still locks up a lot. Multiple times a day now. It seems like it gets worse as time goes on.

I'm so tired of it I'm going back to .75 again (with its unusable camera) and waiting for an official release. I'm starting to dislike this thing and wish I weren't such a heavy BBM user otherwise I'd go to something else. Used to be that BB was stable but at this point I'd rather have WinMo (yeah I know, I said it...) than this terrible OS.

Ah, well...we'll see what happens with future releases.

I fixed this problem just by BACKING OUT, and not hitting the end key. That was teh problem. I'm sure you'll get it fixed if you just back out. It's a known bug.

I know, I hold down BACK or push it repeatedly, instead of pushing END. It still happened. In fact it froze even with NO BBM messages coming in, and just e-mail alerts on the screen.

A few minutes ago it froze when I was using the browser, and set the phone down on the desk and it went into landscape, it froze in landscape and required a battery pull.

I always wipe before installing an OS, too. I have no idea why this doesn't seem that widespread of a problem. Glad you managed to get rid of the problem but those fixes aren't working for me unfortunately...

Have had mine for two weeks - locks up in multiple apps. Rarely use BBM, so not the problem for me. The OS seems very qwirky - today I recvd the white screen with error and reset notification.

Strange. This only happened TO ME AT LEAST with BBM, and like 3-4 times a day. Then I started doing the backing out i've gone weeks without a single battery pull. Check to see what kind of notification or what app is open. Maybe you should upgrade the OS. What OS are you using?
