Default Storm Rattles

Please Login to Remove!

Friends,

Could someone do me a favor and try this.

Take off your battery door and remove the battery. Gently depress your screen with two fingers so the screen does not move. Now give your storm a gentle shake, do you hear something rattling around in there? Now put your battery back in and put the door on, try it again ... Is the rattle gone?

Strange behavior indeed. Thanks in advance for those of you willing to confirm this for me.

How bad is the rattle? Like something rolling around or could it be your Media or SIM card not being totally seated and locked.

Lightbulb No Rattle

I tried your experiment and mine does not rattle even if I don't hold the screen. I will point out that I have done the modification where you loosen the screen tensioning screws which would tend to increase the potential to rattle. I would think that there is something loose inside your phone. You may want to return it before whatever it is shorts out something and burns your phone out (a possibility). 73

I don't have a 95xx but it COULD have something to do with the accelerometer. I have a remote control that lights up when you pick it up, has a very very quiet rattle if you put it up to your ear.

Most accelerometers are filled with a conductive gas that floats to the top of a chamber to detect any movement/rotation. Therefore, the accelerometer should not be making any noise.

Almost sounds like something is rolling around, however once battery is in it stops.

So it was driving me crazy, I returned my storm and exchanged it for another. The new one came with the .75 OS pre-installed. I brought it home and gave it a shake, there is something inside the device loose and rattling on this one as well. This must be normal.

Mine definitely does this. Less than re-assuring. I mean, really...I LOVE this device but it is truly unbelievable the way it was rolled out. Have you EVER had a cell phone that sounds like a baby rattle? This thing should be tighter than a frog's butt. Everybody that jumped on this phone is going to be p1ssed when the next gen comes out.

I think it's the contacts to the battery door (two at the very bottom to either side of the speaker and two right below the torx screws).

My 5th Storm does not Rattle ... However, I don't think it's anything bad, seeing that 4 of them did, I returned the one for rattling and then noticed after a week the replacement would rattle as well. Keep in mind, they never rattled with the battery installed.

the rattle comes from the 2 little copper/gold feet/nubs directly below the 2 torx 5 screws.

Default magnetic "rattle"

I dont have any Storm blueprints but I'm almost positive the "rattle" is the metal magnetic lock "device" contained within the small black square (directly above the speaker on the back of the phone) when holding upright... Anyone who has the leather sleeve will notice the sleeve magnetically closes together. These two somewhat weak magnets must pull the metal connector lock "device" away from its connection in the phone, placing the system in "holster mode."
