Default 8350i not getting all service books (No WiFi and MMS)

Please Login to Remove!

Cliff Notes Version: Several of my service books show up as "disallowed" with an icon showing circle and a slash through it. This prevents my blackberry from working properly, including MMS and WiFi browsing.

Info:
- I am on a BES.
- There are no IT policies restricting these services.
- Neither Nextel nor my company (BES Admins) have been able to help thus far.
- I am an IT technician at my company, but have no access to the BES (at a remote location) myself.

1.) Received new 8350i (yesterday) and switched phone number, etc. over from my old 7520.

2.) Everything seemed to work fine, except my Outlook contacts didn't come down. (Everything is set for wireless sync.) I saw this happen on a customer's Blackberry a few days prior, and wiping/rebuilding the device seemed to fix his issues. So, this is what I proceeded to do.

3.) Blackberry re-synchronized, did Enterprise Activation, contacts came down, and everything seemed to be fine and dandy. But, my "SMS and MMS" icon turned to simply "SMS". I noticed that about 5 of my service books were set to "disallowed", and the "Nextel MMS transport" book was one of them. Another one was the "WiFi TCP/IP Transport" book. Though, the "MMS Client" and "WiFi TCP/IP Browser" books were fine. At this point, I am unable to compose MMS (which, means no text messaging on this phone), and I can see hotspots but it doesn't appear to transfer data over them. Master Radio Reset did not help.

4.) Wiped the device again. Re-activated, re-registered. Everything came back down fine, but the same 5 service books were "disallowed".

5.) Deleted the offending service books, called my BES admin and asked him to re-push them. He did... no dice. Same problem. I can get rid of them a hundred times and they will always come in "disallowed". Bear in mind, there is no IT policy in place that should be preventing this.

I've done several "hard" resets, several "soft" resets, several network registrations, and several service book re-sending procedures, and nothing seems to have worked.

I know that a lot of the 8350i's are having MMS issues, but this one seems to be different. I'm merely not getting working service books anymore. My company wants to send me a warranty replacement at this point.

Any ideas?

Forgot to note... currently, I'm downloading the BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.1.142. We will see if this helps...

OS update did not appear to help. Sigh.

Good lord.

Apparently my company routes all of our web traffic through its own means so that it can block certain webpages from use on the phone. Since it's not using Nextel's Internet service, which MMS uses... MMS just can't work, period. Apparently this keeps my Wi-Fi and WAP from working too?

I dunno, that's what our rep said.

Does this sound feasible, or bogus? Any ideas how to work around this? This severely cripples my phone.

What I'm saying is, I don't think I have BIS. Our web traffic seems to go through our own servers (because pages which are blocked at work are also blocked on my Blackberry.)

I have signed up there... I can log in and I can tell it to send me the service books... but they still say "disallowed". :( Also, I have the capital NXTL if that helps. I would think that everything should work.

My Blackberry's firewall has a checkmark next to "Blackberry Internet Service". I am unable to uncheck it, as it is locked. I imagine this is a product of my BES.

So, my current theory is that with the firewall on, those service books can't come down, so I can't use the services associated with them.

I'm wondering if I can convince my BES admin to disable my firewall temporarily (long enough to allow the service books to come down), if it will still work once it's re-enabled.

the problem with that is if you run into mms problems like most of us have repeatedly. you'll have to keep going back and getting it unblocked. you can try and get them to change the settings for your phone (they should be able to.. they're it guys right?). or you could get a personal one

I actually managed to get an exception through my company to have Blackberry Internet Service enabled on the handheld's firewall... all the service books came down and problem solved.
