Default Need help!! Newbie.. Sorry if it's a stupid question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, I just purchased my 9000 today. There will be funny, weird, stupid questions. Hope U guys could bear with it and aid me so that I can fully utilize the phone. Thanks.

1st of all, I'm using mac OSX. And when I run the software given, it just don't run. What can I do to sync my documents, contacts and calenders from my com to my phone? The bluetooth can't send files and browse from the pc itself. I tried downloading "blackberry for mac" software, but when I plug my phone to the pc, where should I transfer the files to? I'm confused

Next, how do I set the email address in the phone to get my emails automatically? This might be very general, but I'm not a technical person U see. haha

This question might tick some of U guys, but I just want to ensure that I do not miss out anything from the BB features programmed for us. What are the features/ application use in BB that makes U buy the phone?

About BB messenger, how does it work? is it like msn messenger where I can add email addresses and chat on the go?

I heard BB can send free sms to other BB phones, how do I enable this feature from my phone? How do I know who in my contacts owns a BB?

I really hope U guys could help me out of my quories. Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forums!

I am not to familiar with using a mac with a BlackBerry. You may want to check here: Mac Users Corner - BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community

BBM is basically instant messaging between BlackBerry devices. I believe the that is what you're referring to when you were asking about the free SMS messaging between BlackBerrys. As far as I know, there is no free SMS messaging, just BBM (which uses data).

I hope that helps answer at least some of your questions.

Mac user here too.....and congrats on your blackberry.

You cannot use the blackberry desktop software with your mac....not the one that comes with the phone anymore. There are applications for the blackberry and mac, give a visit to the mac forum here.....though they are not from RIM. I've read guud things about `em though.

As for email, look into the set up wizard on the phone, email set up. Look into sending your service books or visiting your carriers BIS site online. Google should bring it up.

To sync with a MAC, you need to use either PocketMac or MissingSync.

Check out the MAC section for more MAC users and probably a better response to your questions.

But how do I add my friends who have BB? I do not know who has one. Thanks anyway, it has cleared part of my doubt. =D

Thanks. Sorry, may I know the long term for RIM and BIS? For the email service, do I have to register with BB my phone 1st? I heard msn messenger live is also applicable in BB. How do I install it into the phone?

You'll need to know each of their PINs and then you can add them within BB Messenger.

Wirelessly posted

RIM = Research In Motion
BIS = BlackBerry Internet Service

For email you'll need a Data Plan (BIS) and the device has to be registered on the BB network; this happens pretty much automatically. Use the email setup "wizard" on your Bold to set up your email; for most accounts you need only your email address and password.

Do a google search for MSN live for BlackBerry; you'll likely find an OTA link to download directly to your Bold.

In case you're wondering, OTA = Other The Air.

Actually you do not need to know their device PIN ---if you know they have a BB you can invite them via email.

Hiya, Congratulations on getting the Bold!
BBM: it's quite simple really.
the minute you find people or know people who have a bb, you can add them with their PIN, which can be found under: Options->Status and you'll see your PIN. but when you wanna add a person, you just ask them for their bb pin.

you can even add other bb users with their email address (i've never had any luck with it) which is associated with their device.

anyhoo, you're hooked. you're using a bb, you're so hooked ;)
