Default Dumb question

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, I'm still a newbie to the whole smartphone thing although dumping the Palm Pilot was great. I got this BBCurve 8310 a month or so ago and it came with something like DM 4.3 on the install CD. I had issues getting it to sync with my Outlook 2000 and was advised here to downgrade my DM to 4.2.

That worked and all is fine. I'm thrilled with the way everything works. So, the big question, what advantages are there to upgrading the OS on the BB to the newer 4.5? It is presently 4.2.2.170 and I have a 4GB media card in it so it plays my videos and music just great.

Is there something new and worthwhile to make the upgrade a good idea?

Biggest improvement in my opinion is native HTML email viewing in 4.5. Many have also reported better battery life and quicker OS response navigating menus.

With OS 4.5, you will get HTML mail. That alone is worth the upgrade.

You will also get Documents To Go Standard so you can view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

It also enables to access third party programs and themes that require 4.5 or higher or programs that may run better on the higher OS

Sounds like it may very well be worthwhile, especially the html view of email.

Now the only thing is whether my DM 4.2 will install OS 4.5 on my BB or will I need to utilize the "loader" functions?

After reading some other posts, it seems I should have no problem loading the new OS with DM 4.2.

I really appreciate everyones help, thank you.

I just upgraded to 4.5 on my 8310. I saw Document to Go, but it's not installed yet (I have to install it in Desktop Manager). Is this free?

I have eoffice. Is this similar or is it necessary to have both?

Similar. eoffice and the pay version of dtg are pretty comparable. Not necessary to have both.
