Question Storm Orientation Change Issues

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

My storm is constantly switching to landscape mode, it only takes the slightest tilt of the device to cause it to do this. Then to it back to portrait mode, which it shouldn't have left, it can take some strange girations.

Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone found any settings, I wouldnt mind if it would switch back as quickly from portait, but it seems to take longer or at least it seems to require more movement to pursuade it.

Otherwise i'm enjoying the storm tremendously.

I'm running 4.7.0.75/94

Thanks
Paul

I am having the same problem but haven't found a fix yet either. I love the storm but this is so annoying because it takes too long to go back.

Did you upgrade your s/w version? That seems to have helped mine a lot.

I did upgrade but still get a long lag time from horizonal back to vertical. It will change back sometimes when I push the end button.

I did the upgrade as well, while it does fix the speed of which the keyboard changes orientation for me, the device still like to go to landscape when laid on it's back. It shouldn't be that way, this is my second storm and the first one did it as well. Seems like something they will fix in a later firmware. I also noticed that the accelerometer will turn the screen on if you pick up the device too quickly.

Has anyone else noticed that the autodim feature doesn't always work while in landscape mode? It has yet to fail in the phone's normal upright (portrait) position, though.

Is this something else for a future firmware fix?

I think the light sensor is where the LED status light is. At least that's what I had figured out on my curve. If that's the case on the storm, it could be your thumb/hand blocks the LED sensor when you hold it in landscape mode so it doesn't work correctly...though I have to admit I haven't noticed.

I considered my thumb, but I've been making sure it's not in the way. It's weird 'cause sometimes it works as it should, then it'll go a long while and won't dim.

I have found that when I'm outside in the cold the problem gets significantly worse.

I think that accelerometer's measure change in position better than absolute position. One thing that I've tried that seems to help is when it gets "stuck" in landscape mode .... I use it for about 30 seconds in landscape mode, and then I rotate it back to portrait mode.

Kinda like a little kid with ADHD ... "I don't wanna switch to portrait mode!" ... ohh shiny!! ... "Portrait mode? Oh sure, I'll switch now"

Not a solution, but at least a potential work-around until it's fixed.

I don't really have this issue, but for what its worth... I take advantage of the fact that the storm only rotates the screen on 3 sides. This allows me to use landscape, even when lying down, by using the fourth side to my advantage to prevent switching.

e.g., when I'm on my right, I put the buttons to the left...and visa-versa

ok this is really starting to piss me off....the phone doesn't rotate 100% of the time, all the time. It frequently gets "stuck" in one mode

Anyone else?
