Default What is DM auto 'Check for updates' MEANT to do?

Please Login to Remove!

A month ago I received a new 8110 from Telstra Australia. It had the old OS, 4.3.

Yesterday while looking at the available OS on the BlackBerry site, I noticed that on 2nd December Telstra officially got the latest iteration of OS 4.5.

When I got the 8110 during initial set up I downloaded and installed the latest version of Desktop Manager, 4.6, and set it to automatically 'Check for updates'.

It would appear that it does not, since it has not alerted me to the latest Telstra release for the handheld OS. Or have I missed the point and it is only meant to check for updates to the Desktop Manager software? Or perhaps because it is a BES device the update is somehow blocked by our IT department?

Finally, does doing a handheld OS update require re-Enterprise Activation?

Thanks!

DM "Check for Updates" only checks for new versions of DM... not the handheld OS.

Yes, doing a handheld OS update will require a new Enterprise Activation post upgrade.

When I upgraded from 4.3 to 4.5 I had to reactivate but when I upgraded from 4.5xxx to 4.5yyy (cant recall the precise no.'s) . . . no reactivation was required.

I presume this is because major upgrades require reactivation and minor upgrades do not.

An Enterprise Activation is always necessary, regardless of the versions of software upgrading from/to.
Depending on how your DM is configured, the EA will sometimes happen automatically without you even realizing it took place.

Yes, an EA was required in this case. It failed with the old password, as it happens (not so surprising) so I'll contact the IT admin on Monday. I now have a great excuse for not answering work e-mails over the weekend! (gee I forgot all about our Lotus Notes Webmail...)
