Default [HOW TO] - Install applications that don't have an Over The Air option!

Please Login to Remove!

Until today, my only complaint as a Mac user was the inability to install applications without an OTA option on my BlackBerry. I've been told it is possible with PocketMac, but I use MissingSync and have been very happy with it.

So far, I only know this works on the 8320 Curve with an SD memory card, but I'm sure it probably works for other models as well. Unfortunately I think the media card is a requirement.
  1. Download the application to your computer.
  2. Hook your BB up to your Mac with the USB cable.
  3. On your BB, if you have it set to prompt, it will ask you if you would like to enable mass storage mode. Select yes. If it doesn't ask you, and your desktop and finder don't show the device mounted, go into the settings on your BB and select 'media card.' From there, make sure both 'media card support' and 'mass storage mode support' are set to on. Then for 'auto enable mass storage more when connected,' select either on or prompt. Save the settings and then disconnect and reconnect your BB. You should then see the device mounted if you selected yes for auto enable, and if you set it to prompt, select yes on your BB when it prompts you on connect.
  4. Now that your BB is connected and ready to go, open the mounted device in finder.
  5. Drag and drop the entire application folder you downloaded to the device directory.
  6. After everything has transfered over, open the media application on your BB.
  7. Hit the menu button and select 'explore.' Select 'media card' and then the application's directory.
  8. Select the file that ends with the .jad extension.
  9. Your BB should then give you a download screen, so click the download button and you're good to go!

I hope this is helpful for you other Mac users!

I'm not really sure. The applications I have installed that way have all had multiple .cod files and/or .axl files and one .jad file. I'll see if I can figure it out.

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

I have all my apps, games and themes on my SD card.

Most apps don't have a .jad file so you have to create or edit your own .Jad file on the go using BBnotepad,

.

I just have a 15 txt files called samplejad.txt that I use as a template, basicaly fill in the blanks

save it as jad, then put it in the same folder as the cod file(s)

then open the jad file and its installed.

Saves me from having to many apps, or games that I don't play often to be using that memory uselessly.

This is what works for me. Copy paste this into a txt file
Make the changes where the are XXXX and save it as jad.
Put it in the same folder as the cod files and open the jad.

If this one dosent work for you just edit a jad file from another app or game and change specs to suit the app you are planing on installing.

Thanks Adorkable.. a really helpful post... I am a relatively new BB (8320 - with T-mobile) user and couldn't help noticing that your BB OS version is 4.5 (I take it that its Device s/w version and not the Desktop Manager version) if that's the case can you shoot a link from where I can download BB device software 4.5. FYI I tried downloading it from BB website and there was a message that said that the s/w is not available from my carrier (some how if the upgrade is available it appears we can download it from the carrier's website only).

Thanks is anticipation
