Lightbulb File Free Distribution

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, everyone! Long time no post.

Is there any tool that can be used to determine how the BB's memory allocation is distributed? My Curve seems to consistently have a low amount of "File Free" space and I'd like to figure out where it's all going.

There must some posts on this in here, but I can't seem to find them.

Bestest,
-mikeT

Memory leak? Alt + Shift + H will get you an info screen that shows free memory, but not the distribution within the file system. Usually a battery pull restores the free memory and forces the apps to release the memory they were hogging.

Thanks, Rambo. I didn't know that shortcut, and I'm a shortcut fiend.

I just don't get it. The free memory just won't stay above 8MB and the Curve really slows down. Seeing the distribution in the FS would be so nice...

It's gotta be a memory leak. Viigo used to do it, but when I bumped up to the 3.? beta, I figured I'd give it a whirl. Now I'm scared to leave any 3rd party apps running, cause I use it for business all the time.

OPTIONS > STATUS > PRESS MENU BUTTON LEFT OF TRACKBALL > DATABASE SIZES

Is that any help?

Maybe your mail / calendar / etc are just holding too much history and the BB is always having to do emergency memory management?

Until you get to OS 4.6, which has tremendously improved memory management, you can't afford to leave any third-party apps idling in the background. ESPECIALLY not Viigo because it's still a major memory hog.

Cool. That accounts for about 3MB.

Yesh, it does seem like "emergency memory management.". My calendar is always full and I get 100 mails a day. I bumped down the appointments to keep for 30 days. Good idea.

Thanks for the 4,6 tip. I'll have to give it a whirl.

Viigo 3beta (?) seemed quite improved on memory hogging for some time. Funny, I suspect it's worse with the flight status tracking feature that was added. After I subscribed to a few flights the slow down problems started (hourglass forever).

4.6, Rambo? I'm sure I could find it around, but ATT only has released up to 4.2.2.301 for the 8300. 4.6 is compatible with the Curve?

There are no 4.6 OS versions for the Curve out yet.

Really? I've left apps open in the background since before 4.1 without problems. Granted, I don't use Viigo.
