2 questions. 1... What would make Opera Mini operate faster over Socket, as opposed to http? 2... When setting this utility to TCP, I am getting a DNS error. When looking at my Berry's TCP settings, I see they are already set to AT&T's defaults. What do I need to do to allow the test to work?

Thanks for your time!

Ok guess I have some probs on how I collect the data on the server side.. tomorrow Ill clean up the db, and release a new version. This time Ill collect the same results that show up on the bberries screen (rather than recalculate it server side). Ill just have to ask you guys to update it and do the speedtest again so I can record the correct values now, and we could have some stats that we could compare between countries/providers

I can't actually confirm the Opera HTTP vs Socket setting; it may have merely been a placebo effect.

Im pretty sure that the setting of HTTP or socket has more to to on using opera cache server (which adapts the page for mobile viewing). You should check on the opera forums for info on that...

Remember that on blackberry plataform, you can use http / socket via BISB and via TCP (APN) so im almost pretty sure that opera only works via TCP (APN).

Good little app. I must admit I'm a sucker for speedtests, however, it doesn't really give a true reading does it, as the time taken from hitting "go" to finnishing is counted, rather than just DL time, which is why the 1M gives a better speed...

Please don't flame me if I'm wrong!!!

Not quite exactly.. the timer goes exactly when the first byte is expected, till the last byte is received, it doesnt have anything to do with the GUI interface and 'how fast' you click. Depends on your speed on what size you get accurate readings. (ie if your on EDGE bberry, then maybe a 100k might be accurate, however, if you're on 3G, it might not be always accurate, and a 1M could represent more a real value on what speed you get on your device.

I'll see if I can work on adding some features this weekend, and add and upload speed test too plus some other enhancments I have on my mind

Default 8830, app gives error starting berryspeedy

I am on an 8830, running 4.2.2, downloaded berryspeedy, this is the error I get when running the app:

Error starting BerrySpeedy: Symbol 'DeviceInfo.getSoftwareVersion' not found.

What do I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks!

I am running 4.2.2. I am unable to upgrade, since I sync with a Mac. I'll have to wait until upgrades are available OTA or through a mac (missing sync). Thanks for the info!

Where your server is located is going to severely affect the speed of a particular device...where is it at exactly?

In a datacenter located at Dallas, TX, with a port speed of 100mbit connected to their backbones
