Default Google Maps problem

Please Login to Remove!

I'am not sure if it is BES related but, I will post it here.

I have deployed Google Maps 2.2.0 using the BES server (OTA installation), then a few months later I removed 2.2.0 version policy from the server and added 2.3.1 version policy. OTA installation went fine on all of the phones, beside two phones....

Both phones have had Google Maps installed previously (manual installation). Now the new BES version is installed but for some reason under "Applications" menu I see both version modules.

I tried to remove it but i could not and here is my problem:

I removed these phones from BES, wiped them out, scrubbed them, i did factory reset, removed battery, tried to use desktop manager to remove this software with no luck...

When i go to Options, Advanced Options, Applications and i try to delete it , i get a message saying:

Unable to remove Google Maps. It is required by "IT policy" application control.

Why can't i remove it? The phone is no longer on BES and BES "IT policy" is not applied to it anymore?

Any help appreciated
Thank you
Tom

The old IT policy/software config could be holding them there. Try this, setup the google maps (old version) for app deployment, but setup a software config policy and set it to disallowed.

Push the policy to the devices and see if it removes. Disallow should cause the application to be uninstalled.

Once done, try the same thing with the new version, then once its gone you should be able to redeploy it (you might no need to remove it first though)

Can you add them back to your BES then push a blank IT policy at them ?

the IT policy is still there, it can't be removed only replaced.

Thank you guys for your help next time i will try you suggestions...

Finally i was able to remove Google Maps (without putting the phone back on the server and replacing IT policy).

I simply upgraded a firmware on the phone and google maps was removed during this process...

One more question...

What is the best way to update Google Maps....

let's say i have 2.2.0 version deployed using BES (Google Maps 2.2.0 software policy applied) and i want to upgrade to 2.3.1 version

should I:

1. delete Google Maps 2.2.0 Software policy
2. Create a new Google Maps 2.3.1 policy and apply to all phones ...

or

1. change Google Maps 2.2.0 policy and set it to disallowed
2. then push (reload) this policy to all phones (and wait some time ?)
3. delete this 2.2.0 policy
4. and finally create a new 2.3.1 version policy and push it to the phones?

what's the best approach to this?

right now i simply remove old policy and create a new one but i am not sure if it is right ...

Shouldn't JLCommander wipe it completely?

I would think Option 2. Might take more time but should get the job done.
