I ordered the smooth black plastic battery door from CNN.cn and if finally arrived. Shipping took about a week and a half! They show it as out of stock now so maybe I got the last one.

Anyway, I love it! Great fit, but that's to be expected with an OEM part. It's smooth like the plastic on the 8820 but slightly more rounded. And as beautiful as the faux leather covered door is, this one is even better looking. Feels much better to hold as well. But the real bonus is that, when using the Fortte sleeve that came in the box with the Bold (Rogers), the BB slips in and out MUCH more easily.

Maybe it's just my personal taste, but I always considered the 8820 my favorite looking/feeling Blackberry I ever owned. (My 7105t is a very close second, almost a tie, but that's a story for another day.) This smooth glossy plastic battery door makes a huge difference in the Bold, both in feel and appearance. I highly recommend it. When I'm feeling a little more "bold" I may try the black bezel mod as well.

I generally like the leather back - you can put it on slippy surfaces without worrying about it slipping - and unlike an iPhone, you don't have to worry that its going to get scratched if you put it down on a rough surface.

I prefer the faux leather back as its more grippy when holding it.
