Default new mail issues with Bold...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, done some searching, but no luck...

I posted a little while ago regarding my "get more" from mail as my Bold was not 'getting more automatically' which is set in my preferences. I'm still having that issue (Haven't been able to find a solution as yet).

Anyway, today, I'm now getting every email with messed up text like "DOCTYPE html PUBLIC .??W3C// DTD......" etc. Only when I go into the menu and ask for 'get plain text' am I able to actually see/read my message. This is annoying to say the least and I shouldn't have to do this, at least not EVERY time.

Any thoughts? I'm using v4.6.0.125 (Platform 4.0.0.134). Oh, and if anyone suggests that I should do the software version upgrade, I'll also let you know that I'm using a Mac utilizing Missing Sync so any suggestions to help with loading a new upgrade would be great.

P.S. can you do a software upgrade OTA?

Thanks to all who can help.
Rene.

Default virtualize Windows XP

You can upgrade your phone successfully on your Mac by virtualizing Windows XP with either Parallels or VMWare Fusion. I recommend VMWare Fusion although both will work. Once you have Windows on your Mac you will be able to run Desktop Manager and do all the upgrades you need.

Thanks distro1, however, that would cost more than I'd like. My Mac is a PowerBook G4 17", not an Intel.

I guess my only other option (didn't want to mention this as I would prefer to do this all at home on my Mac) would be to load he Desktop Manager software on my work PC and use that as my way to load the upgrade right? If I do that, will the upgrade erase my Bold? (of course I would back up/sync prior to doing the upgrade via my work PC).

Thanks.

Aside from the Mac thing, has anyone else experienced a similar email issue and if they've done the upgrade, did that fix the issue(s)?
Thanks again.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem for the last few days on Rogers in Toronto. All HTML formatted email arrives as Jargon beginning with "DOCTYPE html PUBLIC .??W3C// DTD......" I have the latest OS installed and have resent service books 3 times. HTML formatted email was arriving perfectly fine a week ago.

I've also wiped and reinstalled the OS as per Blackberry Tech Support. I don't know what's going on. I am going to call tech support tomorrow again. I'm within my 30 days. I already had to exchange my first Bold due to a faulty trackball.

I had HTML enabled and it was working fine up until this Monday. Last night, I changed the Enable HTML to "no" and I am no longer receiving garbled emails.

You do bring up a good point however that I should check into whether this may be a defective unit? I'm probably at my first 30 days just today so I should hit my Rogers dealer to inquire.

Rene.

If you disable HTML email then your messages will arrive as plain txt. However, that's not acceptable to me. HTML mail should work as advertised.

That's correct, software updates did absolutely nothing. It was working when I got the device and then it just stopped working. Currently I have been escalated to tier 2 technical support at Rogers and am awaiting a resolution. On another note. This issue is also happening on T-Mobile network a lot as I was reading on the official Blackberry support forums. It seems to be a RIM issue and only after escalating to official RIM technical support is it resolved. Either that or get a new phone.

Yes, I have been able to resolve this issue after a week. It's nothing you can do with your phone. The problem exists on RIM's side not your wireless service provider. The problem also occurs when you transfer your accounts over to a new device.

1. I called Rogers tech support. (1 week ago)
2. Escalated to Rogers tier 2 technical support. (4 days ago)
3. Escalated to RIM technical support. (today)

5 mins later the problem is solved.

The RIM representative simply had me delete my email account related service books. He then altered some settings related to my device (PIN). This was done on RIM's end. (Your service provider does not have access to these settings). Then he resent my service books and voila everything started working.

Just an update for any who have this problem. ATT escalted me to RIM. The quickly re-set the PIN and said the issue was backing up and restoring or using the device switcher may have put the old service books on the bold. Not sure if that's right, but resetting the PIN did the trick.
